Ok, so Jim was right.
I have had this wine before but it was lost in a vertical tasting of Cantemerle and La Lagune; this time, on its own with a tri tip steak and potatoes and it's a seamless beauty. Dark color, nice perfume, elegant smooth ripe texture, great vibrant fruit and good structure. The tannins are almost fully resolved which scares me a little about its aging potential, but then again, it's very good now. 93

Yeah, the '10 didn't standout at that big vertical (and I brought that bottle), I thought it was mostly about potential then. It showed better in DC this April than it did at the vertical, but still is better enjoyed on its own right now (or with a whoopie pie) than against wines with 20-40 years of age.

Glad to hear it is coming on strong.

What I've heard about the 2015s in general, and the future of winemaking overall, is that wines with tannin, like those made before 2015, are "rustic" and not modern, quality wines. Perhaps Cantemerle 2010 anticipated this.

The BD says this is a 50-year wine iirc. I'll be happy if it shows secondary flavors/maturity in 10-20 years. Especially if it is enjoyable in any form before then.

I'm happy to read this, as a poor wine lover, I liked Chateau Cantemerle since a long time, and the 2005-2009-2010 are jusr fabulous wine for the price. I hope Cantemerle will stay the same price for many more years, but if they produce wine mainly like that in the future, i guess they will slowly but surely follow the parade...

P.s. By the way, i still do not understand why it did not get the BWE WOTY in 2015... Since that time, I'm a little bit scare of our BD, as like Trump, he seems to have lost track of reality... Or maybe I'm wrong, and he's the ONLY one that sees the RIGHT things.

Very nicely done indeed Jacques. 2010 Cantemerle would have run away with WOTY honors but it was at a disadvantage due to having already received the award for the 2005 vintage.

I had the 1996 last night and it is in a very very good place. It was really singing from the rooftops. Fabulous wine...who knows it might be a roadmap for where the 2010 is headed.

On Tuesday I am organising a Cantermerle dinner. This is the line up:

1979, 1983, 1989
1996, 2000, 2002
2005, 2010, 2010
Climens 1996

Should be interesting, looking forward to the results. The 2010 will need at least 6 hours of air beforehand.

My money is on the 89, Ian. But the 83 and 96 are also fantastic right now. I'll be curious what you think of the 2000, a debated vintage of Cantemerle. Will you guys still be allowed to drink 'European' wine after Brexit?

Btw, the 2015 Cantemerle was released at $32-$33 in the USA-- tempting, though Neal Martin's note seemed a bit tepid.

Brexit is a bummer...I am on a major downer, France is my favourite country in the world...the little Englander (average IQ of a wildebeest) believes everything he reads in our Orwellian newspapers about the Evil Empire of the European Union - as if all our problems are down to the EU - I thought of starting a thread - there is a lot to say and to be frank it is a bit of a mirror of Trump's fear and hate as opposed to the Lennon-McCartney-esque 'love and peace'...or 'lurve'...but Paul McCartney was advocating 'war and hate' when he was divorcing Heather Mills.

I'm still in shock that it passed. I bet Scotland leaves the UK now (eventually).

You must have been busy the last 24 hours, Ian. I'm not a deep thinker but I don't see much positive in the decision for "England" shall we say, Europe or the rest of the world. Other than the usual outliers the winners will be those who lose the least.

I think you should start a thread on it, Ian, I'd be interested in reading the discussion.
