Those with experience aging Lanessan: what would you say is a reasonable estimate for when these start really going over the hill. Wondering specifically about 1996, but also curious about 80's vintages tasted recently.

Thanks!
Noah

At 20 years Lanessan must be over the hill, no?

I've finished my 96's some time ago, but wouldn't have concerns about that year.

2000 is drinking well today, as is 2003. 2005 needs a little more time, to my tastes.

They keep very well, usually 10-20 years in good years.

I've had old ones that were still good, although I would not personally cellar them that long.

Lanessan lives as long as most classified growths. I would not worry about the '96 going over the hill in the next ten years.

It has been a while since I have drunk a Lanessan from the 1980s, but I would expect many to be still in their "plateau of maturity"; at least '86, '89, probably '82, and likely '88 as well.

Thanks all. K&L has very good prices on the 1996. May take a flyer.

Try before you buy... I've had mixed experiences with the 96 Lanessan, and I'm a fan overall.

Were those storage related? I had trio from release and all were ok.

That being said no idea where K&L gets theirs from, and what its provenance is.

They had some direct import relationship with the estate once I think (as does TW) but who knows where back years come from.

I had no variation in my '96 Lanessan.

5-6 bottles I had during 2007-2009 were very musty and dank, I didn't get TCA so I suspected brett. Could have been storage.
