Not much there. Earthy, mushroomy, decent nose, hollow in the middle. Rustic. Nice color. Still youthful but just not much depth. Not a lot of pleasure here. 87 points.

Not surprised. With the overall toughness of the vintage, I never though 1986 was a vintage to go past the classified growths, Poujeaux and Sociando Mallet excepted. That's why I never thought of 1986 overall as highly as 1983, 1985, and 1988 where the less-highly ranked wines provided more pleasure. By now it's all moot as the unclassified wines should be mostly consumed from all of those vintages, and the '86 great growths are just hitting their stride.

I've had this and pretty much agree. The 1989 is quite a bit better, more expressive and will last a few years.

Wasn't this wine pretty good at one point?
The '86 Meyney was good as I recall.

The 86 Meyney was very good for a long time indeed. Off the top of my head I can't think of a vintage I liked better.

The 86 Cordier stable was sort of like the time when Jim Thome & Manny Ramirez were both coming up in the Indians farm system.

Everything went right for a bright shining moment.

...and then Pedro came out of the bullpen and pitched 6 and one third innings of no hit ball in relief.

Yes, the 86 Meyney has been fabulous for ages. It is now in a slow decline but still provides great enjoyment. But the 82, 88, 89 and 90 are/were also great. I'm drinking through my remaining stash pretty fast now.

Yep - forgot Meyney in my short list of 86's.
