I've loved every bottle I've opened of this.

• 2000 Château Giscours - France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Margaux (8/13/2016)
  Cellared since release. Perfect fill and cork. Dark red, minimal lightening at rim. Classic nose of ripe cassis, Margaux-berries, some earthy complexity. Medium-full body, ripe cassis fruit and earthy notes follow the nose, some nice aged complexity, well balanced, medium-long finish. Keeps me coming back for another glass. Should continue to drink well for many years. Excellent.

Nice to see another 2000 performing well. Sounds fabulous and will have to try one.

In the end, the left bank is where it's at.

I'm still hands off most of my 2000s but I've liked the ones I've opened. Giscours, Prieure Lichine, Sociando Mallet, Charmail on the left, and Nenin, Chauvin, Canon la Gaff on the right were all very enjoyable. The Leovilles and Pichons are too young yet but I'm glad I have them. Others I haven't even tried. 2000 was the last year I bought a lot of first growths but I ended up selling them when prices got crazy. So, happy with those but not from a drinking standpoint.

From what I've tasted I would say the wines are generally excellent but not quite up to the hype that accompanied the en primeur campaign. Prices seemed high at the time but in retrospect neither the prices nor the hype were as impressive as what was to follow.

David thanks for the note. Is this on a plateau now or is it still on the upslope?

If you're a fan of aged complexity as I am, it should be even better with a few more years. I think it has the fruit and structure to improve further.
