NYC visit 7-8 October

MEK and I will be in Da Big Apple over Oct 6-10. If anyone is at around or wants to come to the City we would love to meet up and crack open some of the special stuff from the Gironde Estuary. If we get a quorum we could do a theme. Our plane tickets are booked.

I can think of a lot of Bordeaux themes off the top of my head. We will keep Friday and Saturday nights open.

Not sure if I can make it but I will try, if so Saturday would likely be the better night for me.

Count me in and just let me know if (a) you need any help making reservations or something of the sort and (b) the intended theme as I would like to contribute in one form or another. No real preference as to the day, just on Saturdays I work in a liquor store from 12-6 (i.e. for access to things at cost and tax free ;) so a 7:30 arrival would probably be the earliest I could swing.

I might be able to do Friday but Saturday would likely be better for me.

I'm at 25% possible. If I can swing it, I'm up for meeting both Friday and Saturday nights.

As Benevolent Dictator of Bordeaux Wine Enthusiasts, I hereby order you to attend.
Right now I have a probation hearing in Portland (Maine) on Friday morning, I would have to get coverage in order to get there for Friday night.

Hi Jim and JCBA

The plan is to do a Barolo/Barbaresco dinner on Friday night - hopefully at the old Fabios restaurant. Fabio unfortunately died of cancer, but Tiziano - remember him? - is still there.

Then on Saturday the plan is to do a Bordeaux dinner, theme 'super seconds' which therefore includes:

Montrose, Cos, the Pichons, LLC, Ducru, Gruaud Larose, Leoville- Barton, Rauzan Segla and Palmer - an honory super second.

Gives us a lot of scope. My free inventory on both sides of the pond includes stuff like:

Palmer 96, 86
LLC 02
Ducru 03 and 78
Cos 1989, 1986
Leoville -Barton 1996
Pichon Baron 02
Pichon Lalande 95

Ramon has kindly volunteered to organise it, and he is rounding up some of NYC group.

Anyone up for a 'super second' theme of 78's? (Or 85 or 86)

That would be great to bring a 78 or 85 or 86 super second Tom. I have 78 Ducru but the batch has not been reliable and I am not sure how my last one will survive a transatlantic crossing.

We deliberately made the theme a broad one to give us a wide spectrum of super seconds from various years. I will probably bring something from the eighties, nineties and noughties.

Was also thinking of having a lot of wines and serving them in ISO tasting glasses.

So looking forward to these nights. Not sure about the ISO tasting glasses though?

Not that I'll be there, but...

I personally hate ISO glasses. They are simply too small. They were developed many years ago and people cling to them because of WSET and other educational organizations use them as a standard. The whole ISO glass should be revisited.

NB: the ISO standard is now 40 years old. Really needs a revisit.

I agree, Tim. I would never waste a great bottle on an ISO glass if a larger/better alternative were available.

Some times they are a necessary evil to guard against exuberance as the evening wears on and overly ambitious pours into glasses the size of goldfish bowls.

Any more takers?

We are doing a Barolo warm up dinner on the Friday and a super second dinner on Saturday.

Ramon is organising and a couple of his circle are coming too.,

From here Jim and JCKBA are confirmed. Tom are you still coming?

I will be there on Saturday, '78's in tow.

Regrettably, I will not be able to make the Barolo dinner on Friday.

Thanks, Tom

Great Tom

Which 78s were you thinking of bringing? Ramon who is organising has put himself down from Ducru 78 and LLC 95

Could you also give me your email address either on here or if you prefer via PM
Thanks

Ian

Made the trek to storage today, the only '78 Seconds I have are the Ducru and Pichon Lalande. Ramon, any chance you might have a '78 Second besides the Ducru? If not I'll bring an 86.

I'll be there for the Bordeaux dinner on Saturday but I can't make it to the Friday night dinner.
