2002 Branaire

Post by spikegrhm »

Had my first of several bottles of this vintage this week. I did not take formal notes, however, the wine exceeded my expectations. Very nice nose with exotic spice. My palate finds dark fruit with a bit of bramble and much more spice. I would guess that this wine has arrived at its peak . Not as big as the 03 or the 05 Branaire of which I have had both a couple of times. Smaller framed in a classic sense. Bravo to 2002!

Very well done indeed!
St. Julien excelled in 2002.

Thanks for the note. I have a few bottles.

My experience with 02 Medocs is nil. Are they generally near maturity?

An absolute favorite of the '02 vintage. Hard to believe these were ~$20 on release. Not sure they are at peak but no harm in drinking them now as it is such an easy wine to like.....something for everyone, regardless of experience.

I concur all around. Definitely punches above its expectation. For my preferences, it is in early maturity and will likely get better still.
