96 Pontet, Trump, Fall in Maine, and a hurricane.

Post by JimHow »

Our thoughts with everyone in Florida, the Caribbean, and the south. Starting off the weekend with a 1996 Pontet Canet, showing off a beautiful classic Pauillac bouquet at the outset, in anticipation of a Saturday trip to Manhattan to see Maureen, Ian, and other BWEers, can't wait!

Absorbing the Trump "locker room talk" tape. Watching O'Reilley right now dancing to defend him. Fun stuff.
Oh baby is this gonna get ugly.

Ok so let's see how Megyn Kelly handles it.
This is going to be a big test in my mind as to whether she is legit or not.

I'm noticing that the New York Times -- the newspaper of record -- at least on line -- is not blocking out the profanities. Online, at least, they are printing out the full words of "fuck," "bitch," "pussy," etc.

Sigh. Look, I'm the most vulgar person in the world. But… The New York Times.
They're supposed to be above this.

Also, I note that the Washington Post beat the NYT to the scoop… YET AGAIN.

So sad.

What a rag.

I subscribe to the digital edition of the NYT but not the print version. Can someone let me know if they print those terms in the print version?

As my brother Tom just texted to me, "this campaign is about to get medieval."

Wow, Paul Ryan "sickened" by Donald's comments, not appearing with him this weekend.
That's big.
But, hey, Paul: Are you surprised by this, Eddie Munster?
You reap what you sow, big guy.

Another October surprise. A dish, like revenge, that is best served (when it's getting) cold.

As for the 1996 Pontet Canet, this is why we love Pauillac.
The nose, as it has always been, is tremendous.

Sorry, gotta interrupt my nose...

And here we go!

Sean Hannity has just pulled out the cigar.

Wow Sean and "Judge" <rolls eyes> Piro and the obligatory big haired blonde on his show are apoplectic. Oh baby. And here we go.

As I was saying. The 1996 Pontet Canet is a classic. Greet nose. Nicely evolved. Very Pauillac. Has a touch of astringency that I find appealing. Best performance yet for this 96 from this classic Cabernet vintage. 93+ points.

I love that P-C too. What's your favorite vintage of that estate?

I had the 96 P-C a few months ago, and once it opened up, it was fantastic. Your notes capture it well, especially the touch of old school austerity on the finish. And I think it will continue to get better for the next 5 years plus.

Wow, watching Jason Chaffetz crapping on Trump.
The rats are jumping the ship.
What a night!
Boy this sure feels like a big turning point.
This debate is gonna require Checkers times 1000!
Trump sure seems dead!
Let's see what the next 48 hours bring!

I had the 96 a few months ago too and loved it. Sadly, have not had any post 2005 vintages, and even 2004 and 2005 had to be shortly after release.

Am looking forward to seeing what they can do in Napa with their new vineyard. If it is anything like Dominus i.e. a Bordelais working with ripe Napa material it could be a real winner.

Very saddened to hear about the large loss of life in Haiti.

I can't see how Trump can recover from this. I am sure the timing was not accidental. Ironically Bill was probably worse - I wonder if that comes out before polling day?

I suspect Trump will come out all guns blazing in the debate and could implode and/or disappear up his own backside in a cloud of smoke.

I am still holding off my extracting my case of a Pontet-Canet 1996 from storage, but seems like it is approaching its plateau.

Looking forward to seeing you tonight Jim.

There was a nice Freudian slip in the First German Television a few days ago: 'Der amerikanische Präsidentschaftskandidat Donald Drunk...' /'The American presidential candidate Donald Drunk...' :-)
Have a lot of fun, guys!

Very sad news about Matthew and ongoing loss of life.

I'm sure Ian's right about Trump not backing down. Even his apology was quite aggressive. No doubt the Trump side will be pushing Bill Clinton's past. Not sure if it will turn the tables any for the crucial undecideds. Bill Clinton's not running, and he's no longer chasing skirts (that we know of) and he's not currently making degrading comments about women.
