Age and Wine redux - Oh the convention.
Age and Wine redux - Oh the convention.
I just spent the last two days in the hospital for afib heart disease. Will be on meds for the rest of my life. A casualty of this is severely limited consumption of tea and wine, two beverages I love. I asked my cardiologist and he limited me to two glasses. Maybe I'll fudge just a little at the convention, but my days of mass consumption are over.
I know I not the only one who has been limited but it's a little ironic that I just bitched about age and wine - then...
BTW, the wine bbq is still on for next Saturday.

I'm sad to hear that news, Bill, I hope the meds keep it under control.
With my artery blockage I'm not far behind you, I'm afraid.
I've been trying to drink in more moderation this year.

Sorry to hear that Bill, but I'm glad you're back home and hope you are feeling well.

Sorry to hear that, Bill.
Try spitting. You get most of what you want from a wine without swallowing.

Not that I would give medical advice specific to Willliam P., but pts. with afib. have a wide a wide discrepancy in their tolerance of alcohol.
Some cannot consume even the tiniest amounts without triggering an episode whereas others can drink liberally without difficulty.
Event Monitors and/or Holter monitoring help to sort things out.
Amiodarone and its ilk do require careful monitoring, though.
Best of luck to you, Bill.

I'm glad your back home and getting better. And I'm glad we're still on for Saturday.
Re: Age and Wine redux - Oh the convention.
Sorry to hear that Bill,
I was diagnosed myself with AFib in September 2014, I was 56 at the time. I was on blood thinners for three months (Xarelto) and on Christmas Day 2014 (three months after diagnosis) I underwent a successful catheter ablation. I never did a cardioversion.
I have since been off blood thinners, and I'm drinking my fair share of alcohol. I try to limit it to two drinks a night, three nights a week, not always successfully
I know every case is different but if you want to discuss, feel free to pm me.

Thanks one and all for the good thoughts and advice. I have an appointment with my Cardiologist to discuss future treatment as some have described. Had one and 3/4 glasses of CdR last night without problem (with the doctor's approval). Life is change, how we differ from the rocks.

Good luck Bill.
One last thing, I used this website as a resource. It is a blog written by an electrophysiologist who also suffered from Afib.

Sorry to hear that Bill.
I would suggest that you could restrict your consumption to first growth Bordeaux and Grand Cru burgundy. The quality increase will offset the quantity decrease.

New health issue is never fun. But William P, wish that everythings will be fine and that you can still enjoy wine in the future.
As for convention, seem to me that we're using more reason and good sense today than in the past.
