Hello Everyone,
I am doing a study about Bordeaux wines and would be grateful if you could share any input on below questions:
- Are there any problem with the current offerings of Bordeaux Wines?
- Do you know if there are any new upcoming trends?

Very much appreciating your help with this one!

Katherina,

The first step is to define what is meant by the word "Bordeaux".

The above comments concern only the very tip of the pyramid.
In that context, they are correct.

However, Bordeaux is - conservatively speaking - some 6,000 châteaux, while the great growths and assimilated wines are about 5% of that figure...

Vineyard area has actually gone down in recent years and there is some concentration as the younger generation is, in many instances, not interested in a very demanding job that pays rather poorly.

The rise of the Chinese market has had a major effect. There was a slump recently, but China still remains Bordeaux's biggest export market in terms of both value and volume.

Best regards,
Alex R.

Dear Alex,Tom and David,

Thank you for your answers - very helpful!! In particular Alex the info on the scarcity of vineyards due to decreased motivation from younger workers!

Do you happen to know the key players in the industry, apart from Bordeaux which I think is one of the key players right?

Thank you all!
Kateina

Are you talking about the French wine industry as a whole?

There are plenty of online resources such as https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/French_wine

The major players in French appellation contrôlée wine are Bordeaux and Champagne.

Katerina,

Can you give a bit more context? The questions seem to be quite broad in scope, and so they can be taken in many different directions and perspectives. The perspective of American buyers might be different than French or Chinese buyers. Likewise the perspective of buyers is quite different from those that are in the business. Likewise, there are many many different issues and trends in the industry. Whether it is globalization, pricing, shifting buying patterns, classification, industry consolidation, etc., there are a lot of things happening. Would help to narrow the focus.

Cheers,

Tim

Katerina - there are years worth of threads on these topics. If you are genuinely interested, and not just trolling the easily baited, just start reading, starting pretty much anywhere, ignoring political threads. If you are doing real research asking internet chat boards doesn't count. Nor does Wikipedia. Those are what I expect from 6th grade book reports.
