The Jadot 1er Cru is delicious like the others I've had previously, it seems less closed than the Burgs we had in DC. Beautifully pure fruit.

Well time for dinner before settling in for yet another Sox whuppin' of the Yanks tonight in the Fens.

Let's see how these half bottles perform with tenderloins from the grill.

So Jim, that's a Beaune 1er cru? It looks like that from the picture but my eyes are not what they use to be. Great lineup for dad.

Yes Bill it's a Beaune 1er Cru, and damned if it's not holding up strong against two delicious Bords.

This is the third time, I think, that I've had the '98 Quinault. Each time, including tonight, I've been very impressed by the integration of fruit and wood. This wine seems to be developing very nicely.

I didn't get much of a taste of the '00 Lafon Rochet, the small pour I had revealed a nice St. Estephe that remains quite youthful. Hold, although it offers up some nice Medoc traits at age nine.

This 2005 Jadot Beaune Premier Cru is just flat out a beauty. I've had probably a half dozen bottles over the past year and it has not failed me. What great ripe cherry fruit. This is as good as when I first had it last summer, it seems to me nbot to have shut down at all. Very delicious.

"98 Quinault ended up being quite stunning in the end, with 1998 right bank chocolate and voluptuousness. I really like this wine, I have about a half dozen half bottles left. I remember Whuzzup sold the remaining bottles from his case purchase, he went long on the '98 right bank vintage and I think he was disappointed by the early results. But I think RMP was right on this vintage yet again. That '98 Pavie Decesse was a beauty in DC as well. 93 points.

Jim,

Glad to hear about your experience with the '98 Quinault. I bought a few bottles of that in a mixed case I got for my brother-in-law, whose son was born in that year. We have yet to find a celebratory occasion to sample any of the wines. So your notes are a nice reference point.

It is strange that the Jadot has not closed down as the Jadot style is very classic.

I tried the '98 Quinault l'Enclos once; I think it was at a BWE virtual tasting. It was so full of wood that I could not guess at how it would develop, so I did not buy any more even though I know The Bob is very good at predicting how a Bordeaux will turn out. Partly I was afraid it would be too New World for my taste. Not that it is a big deal since I have 7 or 8 cases of other '98 right bank wines. ;)

That was my (and Whuzzup's) first concern about the wine when I first bought it, that it would be too woody.
Now it has integrated beautifully. A very classy wine.

I must have missed the post about the 98 Pavie Decesse but I am glad to hear that it is evolving. Last bottle I had showed much potential but it was very tight. I was a little worried just how long I had to wait until potential became reality. In fairness to the wine, I must admit decanting would of help but I did an impulse pull from the cellar.

Jim, Those ' 05 Jadot Beaune are a real treat. I scoured the shelves of several NH state stores when they were released, and I picked up more than 30 of those little beauties. I think I've only got about a dozen left. Remember the pricing error? If I'm not mistaken, with the discount they were $11.50 ish / 375? A lovely and true little Burg.

No wine for me today. Home sick with the swine flu. Tamiflu really works though. I just watched the NESN reply of last night's Red Sox sweep. Unreal Sox bullpen.

Get well quickly, Steve.

Bill, '98 Pavie Decesse, while not in its "plateau of maturity", is very good now. Give it four hours of air.
