Re: Seeking nominations for 2016 BWE Wine of the Year….
My highest scored Bordeaux consumed from my own cellar in 2016 were left bank Cru Bourgeois:
2009 Chateau Lalande - St Julien (better than the 2010 IMO)
2010 Chateau Senejac - Haut Medoc
2010 Chateau La Fleur Peyrabon - Pauillac
2010 Chateau Lilian Ladouys - St Estephe
All have received 92 points from me, with one bottle of the Senejac receiving 93 points.
I would happily open any one (or all 4) next to a 2012 La Fleur de Bouard for expert judgement.

Indeed, my wine of the year thus far was the 64 Cheval Blanc that I had with SFEd. When the right bank is on, it is seriously on.robert goulet wrote:1998 la grave a pomerol would make even the harshest critic's rethink their statements. Glorious wine....cab franc addition is the ultimate wild cardTom In DC wrote:Picking a right banker sounds more like one of those phony lifetime achievement, accommodating some oversight awards. His benevolence is long on record saying that right bankers aren't really Bordeaux wine at all, merely basking in the proximate glow from the Medoc. Of course, we all serve at the pleasure of the BD, so whatever his choice, we can all rest assured that it will be a wise and indeed benevolent one.

If a Burgundy vintage can win it, then so can a right bank wine!

There has to be some older Figeac's that have rocked some palates.

The 86 La Conseillante that Tim brought to London to share with Danny and I wasn't exactly shabby. In fact it was magnificent. Another brilliant right banker we had that night was Latour A Pomerol 2001.
But as Tom said it is a decision for the BD who's benevolence is only matched by his sagacity.

Figeac 1998 is right up there Robert. I had it this year at it was my wine of the night in a St -Emilion first growth ('A') dinner. It is still a teenager - literally and metaphorically.

Lucie and I liked Figeac from the 1960m, rg. Both 1964 and 1966 were very good. I have not bought Figeac in recent times because it became so expensive.

Re: Seeking nominations for 2016 BWE Wine of the Year….
I found this thread on page 2 already.
Looking at past winners, most of the time the vintage selected was 3-5 years past.
The last two were from 2010 and 2012, but no 2011 has been chosen yet.
Are there any 2011s which deserve WOTY?
I think Calon Segur is the only one mentioned up-thread.
Here's the thread Nic started one year ago on the 2011 Calon Segur: http://www.bordeauxwineenthusiasts.com/ ... f=4&t=6183
As a point of interest, the 2013 CS received 97 points from WE while the 2011 received just 95.
Also the 2013 is selling for $5 less at Total Wine right now.
I may just head over to Total Wine, get that lonely bottle of 2011 CS they have, and open it this weekend.

Re: Seeking nominations for 2016 BWE Wine of the Year….
9th bottle of 2009 Chateau St Paul tonight and keeps getting better. Strikes well above its price point and this is one that would embarrass most in a blind tasting. No other wine that I've had this or other years stands out as top candidate for wine of the year. Yes there are better wines but you'd be hard pressed to find better value and I'm sure that if you poured this into a decanter you'd fool many wine experts that this is something that its not supposed to be. These are the ones that I love finding....the gem in the rough!!. This has not disappointed from first through 9th bottle. Only problem is that there are just 3 left and this is rounding out beautifully.

Nic,
A left bank wine won, but just wasn't chosen!
Too soon?

Maybe if you poured the right bank wine into a Rhone bottle...
