Any iPhone experience with this site yet?

Post by JCNorthway »

I wonder if anyone else has tried accessing the site via iPhone. I can get to the site and read posts in the forum. But it appears that the login process for creating a post or replying does not work on the iPhone. It asks me to login. After I do, it tells me I've been successfully logged in, and allows me to type my post. When I hit the submit button, I get returned to the login page, and the message is not sent.

Any other experiences out there yet with this?

Thanks,
Jon

I think David had some problems with it from his phone during the beta phase, Jon, but that's a project on Phil's to-do list.

It works in other fora using this same set up, so I'm sure it's a problem that can be tackled.

I've visited the site from my crackberry and while there are a couple of formatting issues it's mostly usable for browsing. I've not tried to post from it yet though...

Jacques,

Thanks for letting me know. I'll try again later tonight or tomorrow and see if I have a different result.

I can access the site, read and reply from my phone, but the formatting is kind of screwy.

OK I've changed the code for the header slightly so it should display properly on an iPhone - I can't be sure of this as I've only got an iPhone emulator, not the real thing - but it should stop the search box coming down and getting messed up with some of the navigation. Can someone confirm this?

Michael, how does it look on your Blackberry now?

Anyone else having display/posting problems?

Whatever you did, Phil, the formatting now makes it impossible to find the login box on my Treo. I can read, but can no longer post from my phone cuz I can't log in from the phone. Not a big deal - I'm sure there are more Blackberry users out there than Treo, and I don't really need to post from my phone...

Also when I open a thread, the names of the posters on the left and right hand sides are formatted vertically, like:
b
y

P
h
i
l
R

Have you tried doing a hard refresh? It could be that your Treo (not heard of them before btw) has cached part of the stylesheet or something.

It works from my iphone without any problems. I can read, write and submit posts.

Phil, the Treo is the Palm based smartphone.

I cleared the phone memory and jiggered a few settings on the phone which also helped.

Formatting isn't perfect - some labels overwrite each other - but very usable now.

No idea how to do a screenshot from the phone...

But even if it doesn't look perfect, it works. And it sounds like the iPhone and Blackberry users are not having any problems at all.
