Undoubtedly the last of three or maybe four I picked up a ways back. To this point I have pretty much consistently liked these better than the 2000 counterpart, excepting the first 2000 I had, which I liked so much it prompted me to pick up the 98s. Now I think I have that right but maybe I bought the 2000s because I liked the first '98 so much. No I think I have it right the first time. And the last couple of 2000s have been pretty nasty. But anyway this bottle really reminded me of Ian's note on the 1996 Ducru. I wouldn't say the 1998 Louviere is top of the heap but it was a perfectly (to my tastes) mature Bordeaux, right from the dark but muted color, that complex, winey bouquet and the nice blend of sweetness, acidity and pliant mouthfeel.
