The 2010 Les Grands Chenes has been uncorked.

Post by JimHow »

I've liked this wine the several times I've had it. We first drank it at that seafood restaurant in downtown Bordeaux during BWE '15.
It is from the greatest Bordeaux vintage ever produced. I'm experiencing an almost overwhelming sweetness on the palate at the outset that I do not recall from my previous experiences with this wine.

Jim,

Wasn't it another Magrez wine that we had....the 2010La Tour Carnet that Nic thought was sacrilege to have a red wine with seafood(must be that catholic upbringing) or did we have both? I certainly remember the LTC but no memories of the LGC. Jog my memory will you. Maybe that sweetness on the palate you can't recall is because it was the LTC you/I remember??

Good memory, Danny, but you are only half correct.
The first bottle we ordered was 2010 La Tour Carnet.
We liked it. I tried to order a second bottle of the La Tour Carnet but that was their last bottle.
We then went with the 2010 Les Grands Chenes as the second bottle.

This is not a very impressive wine. It probably gets into the high 80s because of the vintage.
It is too sweet and unbalanced.
87+ points.

Maybe that`s why I don`t remember the second bottle. The La Tour Carnet was not just a nice bottle but it went surprisingly well with the seafood. Another How convert.

Available here but at a dissuasive price.

I prefer white wine with seafood, but I won't start a Crusade because some like red with it! I'm an open mind boy, and accept that here on BWE, some are like the new US President, prefering alternative facts.

I drank through 6 of the 2005s and liked them pretty well. Not complex or destined for great aged complexity, and a bit oaky, but enjoyable and decent value for very good wine.
