Brick through the window.

Post by JimHow »

Ah yes, the obligatory brick through the window.
Sometime between 8pm last night and 7am this morning.
My beautiful hand-crafted gold leaf lettering that has been there for 26 years gone in a flash.

Whoever it was had some mustard on it, the brick ended up about 20 feet into the office....

Too bad, Jim. Are there any suspects?

No. Most people think it may be related to my recent trial but it could be anybody.

Sorry Jim. Hatred seems to be everywhere. Insanity rules the day. As Willie the Shake said: The first thing we do, let's kill all the lawyers.

Thanks Bill, yeah, I don't know what possesses someone to do that.
With a brick.
I have no idea if this was someone I pissed off in the 10,000+ cases I've handled over the past 31 years, or if it was just a random act.
I've been burglarized, and stalked, and harassed over the telephone, and even received death threats in my years in politics and the law.
I've been attacked in the courtroom and did a double manslaughter trial a couple years ago with 12 armed guards in the courtroom because there were some very angry people, including numerous Hell's Angels, in the audience.

But for some reason this brick through my gold leaf lettered window has me most pissed off. I started that little office at ground zero on Lisbon Street in April 1991, and there has been a LOT of hard work. The first thing I did was have this old painter come and hand craft my gold leaf lettering on that window and another one on the other side at the corner of Ash and Lisbon. It has been my little corner in the heart of the downtown. And it has been there for more than a quarter century, and in one moment it's in a hundred pieces. Piss me off.

I'm sorry to hear about that Jim. Somehow I think it's a bit a sign of our times. Not encouraging for our future, absent some as yet unforeseen intervention to change the tide.

Isn't that the regular top award for an excellent lawyer?

Sorry about that Jim, especially that it smashed something important to you.

Look at it this way Jim. You haven't lost a window. You've gained a brick. Assuming the cops let you have it back (or that they don't lose it--please demand proof of chain of custody), have it framed (gold plating it would be too Trump) and exhibit it as a badge of honor in your office.

Ha you've read my mind, Hound.
I'm definitely keeping it on the shelf.
No, the cop did not take it.
His "investigation" took about 6 minutes.
We are looking to see if there are any videos but it is doubtful.
There's a security camera in the lobby of the building but the window is just out of view.
That brick came in hard and fast, it bounced off the door to the inner office and went another several feet.
That was one angry son of a bitch.

If the brick had mustard on it, then you're probably looking for some hotdog.

Sorry to hear about this Jim.

The windows in the insurance claims office where I work get smashed about twice per year. The last one was probably related to the homeless couple who were occupying the area behind our building who were removed by the police.

Two weeks ago our office was struck overnight by a car being pursued by the police. Possibly stolen.

Yeah it was him, or one of his operatives.

I was trying to think of something funny/witty/lighthearted to say - like it must have been James Sutcliffe or the owner of GPL. But it was tough. Awful business.

All I can say is that having a brick being chucked through your window probably means you are on the way to getting a wiki listing.
