The 2005 Mongeard-Mugneret Fixin has been uncorked....

Post by JimHow »

It's been a while since I've had this wine, which really struck my fancy in its early years.
I just ordered six bottles of the 2012 the other day.
It is very delicately pigmented, starting to show some fading now at the rim.
But still structured and tannic at the get go.
My recollections were that this wine really evolved with air, let's see how it performs tonight.
Last minute packing, a light day in the office tomorrow then off to Boston tomorrow night, then next stop... BWE '17 in San Francisco, California!

I was just gonna say, this is a Jean-Nicolas Maltais kind of wine.

Love this stuff!

See you on Thursday!

I will probably bring a 2005 Vosne-Romanée from Méo-Camuzet, to match with the St-Innocent on Friday night.

I know we took some heat for the 2005 Burgundy vintage as a "protest" wine of the year on a Bordeaux site, but let me tell you something.
As near as I can tell, the 2005 Burgundy vintage is about as great a vintage from a wine region as I have experienced.
Even these $25 wines (now $35-40ish) attained levels of superbness the likes of which I wonder when Burgundy has last seen.

As when I first drank it upon release this wine evolves so dramatically from tannic and sour cherry to rich, smooth, raspberry with just about an hour and a half of air. Perhaps the most brilliant $25 bottle of wine I have ever tasted.

I can see the burgundy devil rearing its head just before the convention. Need an exorcist and I am glad you will be meeting stefan...

The good padre will use the intercession of St. Innocent to free the BD's soul from the clutches of the Burgundy devil.

Fixins typically do, Jim. In general, they are not wines to lay down.
