1989 Cantemerle revisited

Spectacular wine with iodine, minerals, cedar, pencil lead, rich fruitcake, luxurious Cuban cigar (unsmoked), porcini mushrooms, truffle, spice box and forest floor, with a refreshing saline streak. This punches so far above its weight. This particular bottle did not quite have the persistence/length on the palate of previous bottles, but other than that this is a thrilling and mature bottle of claret. 94 points.

I wonder if the 1996, 2000, 2005, 2009 and 2010 will ever be this good?

Your last sentence is a good question. As I did not tasted the 1989 Cantemerle when it was young, thought to say. Did anybody here tasted the 1989 and 2010 when they were aged 3-4 year each?

Me two liked very much that wine in the past and think it punches over it weight, a bit like the 1990 Sociando Mallet.

I went thru a case of the 89. Every bottle was delicious.

I had the 89 several times in 2015 and 2016, and I too thought it brilliant each time. I've managed to backfill 6-7 bottles or so, usually quite cheaply for a mature claret of such calibre.

At a big vertical in 2014, the 89 was the star, followed by the 66, 83, 82 and 96.
