Thoughts on the 89 Chateau Margaux?

Post by Blanquito »

I'm looking at the 89 Margaux for a "good" price ($300) and the 95 Mouton for a bit more. I've never spent that much on a single bottle before, but I could be ready for the right wine.

Buy(s)?

My limited experiences with 1989 Margaux have been awkward but the last one was a long while ago and I would defer to stefan and at that price it is difficult to turn down. I suspect a very long term wine. The 1995 Mouton I have had a few times and is 95 to 100 points...it won a judgement of Paris a few years ago. It needs a few more years. But there is no doubting the quality.

'95 Mouton 4 days ago was rather vegetal and uninspiring, '89 Margaux a year ago was interesting and more "masculine" than most other vintages.
