Thats a tough one Nick....
tuna has a steely taste to it and usually does not pair up well with wine.....if you opt for a fattier cut of the tuna, then something with acidity may do well. perhaps a bubbly may pair up well, but i haven't had that combination in years.

Re: Tuna steak
Why not try a Muscadet? or a light grenache?

Tuna steak. Too much trouble.
Fish needs to be kept simple. Haddock. Halibut. Atlantic salmon.
A little bit of butter, garlic, pepper, lemon. And any red you want. Mmm.

Re: Tuna steak
I have enjoyed both red Burgs and Oregon pinots with tuna grilled medium rare. I think it works well if you keep the tuna simple - as in salt and pepper.
Re: Tuna steak
Red Burgundy or Oregon Pinot Noir.

Re: Tuna steak
As I reflect on this, I think it needs a "rich" pinot, and not a light/thin one.
Re: Tuna steak
Nic,
Is the tuna white or red?
My immediate thought is any white wine with character, but then a chilled, tannic, fruity wine should suit too.

Re: Tuna steak
Depending on the method of preparation and side dishes, we like tuna with Oregon Pinot Noir or a lighter nebbiolo.

Loire white Sancerre, Poilly Fume or such. Quincy used to be an excellent value, now not so much.

Sushi Village up in Whistler recommends red Graves with their fish, for those who must have red with seafood.
It works well enough

Re: Tuna steak
I'm taking no risk and will go with jcka recommendation. Provence rosé! There will be sesame oil and sesame seeds, soya sauce sauce, garlic... No risk.
Bordeaux will be tomorrow, with lamb.

Re: Tuna steak
Great wine killer sesame oil. That's a tough match and I think you're heading in the right direction. Off dry Riesling or Gerwertztraminer would be where I would go but I'm sure the Rose will work.

Re: Tuna steak
With tuna prepared that way, I would not drink pinot noir. I agree with Danny. Saki would also be OK.
Re: Tuna steak
Was an ok match with the Provence rosé. A 2016 S de la Salette, fruity and light. I like

Re: Tuna steak
Had a lovely 2013 Chatesuneuf du Pape tonight at the far corner "VIP table" tonight in Manhattan.
Delicious, like I usually find my red wine matching with fish.
