Ah, that was the big question when I started the blog...
In fact, I have asked around, and people seemed to feel that the notes gave a good general feel, so that pinning the wine down with numbers was not necessary.
However, I know that major publications do this.
How do you feel about that?

I like your stance and was just poking fun but I thoroughly enjoyed reading through your notes as it brought me back to January when I got to taste most of these wines save for Pichon Lalande which was notably absent at the UGC event in NYC. Looking forwards to your next installment!

From reading your notes it looks like Clerc Milon and Pichon Baron are winners and relative bargains.

Very interesting AlexR. From the read, I can understand you preferred what Stefan listed + Beychevelle, Lynch Bages and Léoville Poyferré.
In general, seems like the wines are already closing down.
I did not bpught any 2014 en primeur. I'll check for them in our liquorstore in a year or so.

I just had to comment on the 2003 Pontet Canet.
I bought 15 bottles of this wine as I thought it was fantastic when it first arrived in Australia.
Yet I have now consumed 8-9 bottles over that time and still have no idea where it is going.
Whenever I comment on it, it always seems to upset someone's sensibilities, which is interesting in itself.
The wine seemed to shut down totally after a few years and I have not tasted anything yet to excite me.
It has rather dry and bitter tannins and a lack of length and structure.
So I am not opening any more till 2023. If it disappoints then, I'll send the rest to auction.

Claudius, my experience mirrors yours. I bought a case (a lot for me). I have had a couple of bottles that showed well in recent years but nowhere near as powerful as the ones consumed shortly after release. I've still got most of them left and am just sitting on them hoping that they will open up. Waiting 5 years sounds about right to me, but it's just a guess.
