Two Saint-Emilion GCC just sold

Post by AlexR »

Both to French firms.

Berliquet to Chanel (Canon and Rauzan-Ségla).

Troplong-Mondot to SCOR

who are partly owned by the French government.

And two more.

I hear Clos La Madeleine has been acquired by Christian and Edouard Moueix.

And yesterday Alain Moueix was reported to have sold Château Fonroque.

Yes, Clos La Madeleine is a lovely little estate (in fact, tiny) overlooking the town of Saint-Emilion and I quite like the wine. Unfortunately, the Champenois owner was invovled in trafficking, i.e. the "Vin de Lune" scandal.
This name comes from that fact that tanker trucks arrived in the middle of the night.

I had heard about Fonroque, but forget who was the purported buyer.

Hi Alex

Strange how none of the articles (there was quite a lot written about this when it went through the courts) mentioned Clos La Madeleine. Presumably the prosecutors (and therefore the journalists) concentrated on those estates known to have 'received' the Vin de Lune?

Fonroque was sold to Assurances Gaillard I think, an insurance company.
