What is (are) your favourite vintage(s) of Pichon Baron?

My favourite vintage is 2010. Full stop. Still one of the best wine values out there. Easily first growth quality at quarter the price.

But of the other 'great' years - I subscribe to the belief that this estate had a discrete step up in quality in 1988 - my second favourite would be 2000.

In the so-called off years my favourite is 2002 - I have watched in dismay as the price has soared having only one left.

My sentimental favourite is the 1988. We were served a perfect example at the Chateau on Friday 22 May 2015. I even guessed what it was, blind.

For drinking today:
1989 > 2000 > 1990 > 2010

For value:
2010 hands down, incredibly bright future

The 1989 is fresh in my mind having just opened a bottle two weeks ago, this one being from pristine provenance with perfect fill. Honestly one of my favorite wines and I still think a relative value at today's prices, but I could see the 1990 catching up and surpassing years from now. I absolutely love these wines...

Never had one. Thinking of starting a thread on the ones that got away.

David the 2016 Baron is good but not in the same league as the 2010 Baron and the 2016 Pichon Lalande

On all the vintages I tried (1982-1983-1986-1988-1989-1990-1995-1996-2001-2003-2009-2010, and probably some older, but I have to search my notes to remember), i guess the 2009-2010 duo is the best and most promising. 1989-1990 are two great Barons.

If I would have to pick up only one, I think it would be 2009. But on another day, it could change.

Indeed. A long time since I've had one though!

I was always a little underwhelmed the 95 & 96.

When my dog broke a bottle of one those latter vintages (can't remember which) with her whole body tail wag, I didn't even get pissed.

Has anyone had a good/inspiring/memorable bottle of the 1996? The CT crowd still seem to love it.

A problem with Pichon Baron is that I have a natural tendency to compare it to Pichon Lalande. And when you have tasted the tremendous 96 Pichon Lalande, you can only find the 96 Pichon Baron good.

My favorite in each vintage (vintages that I tried both Pichons)

1982, 1983, 1986 = PL
1988, 1989, 1990= PB
1995, 1996 = PL
2001 = tough call

Yes, several have been memorable.

It is interesting that nobody has mentioned the 2005, which is not only my favorite Baron, but I found one of the best wines of the vintage, when I tasted them in barrel. I have tasted it several times since, and it has been very dumb, and only recently that it has begun to show what it is capable of.

I got a case when Premier Cru shipped it instead of the Lalande I had ordered. I got the price down and still got the 1996 Lalande, which is more than I can say for the 2014s.

I have opened a bottle or two, it is good, but not a great wine. About 93 points

Christian Seeley hosted a tasting in London in November 2012 and although I didn't make it explicit in my initial write up the 2005 was my wine of the tasting, as I noted in a subsequent post. Just edging out one of two of the others. The 2010 was too young for an amateur like me to judge.

On the strength of that experience I purchased a case of the 2005. I tasted one 2-3 years ago - from a separate source from the case I purchased, which is soundly sleeping - and it was shut down tight. But over here you can pick up the 2005 very cheaply for virtually no premium over other surrounding lesser vintages. Footnote: you can buy the 2005 here for the same price as the 2001 and 2003. That is illogical captain.

Seeley is coming to London again in November for an update. I have my ticket. If anyone will be in London on November 12 there are still tickets available.

2010 is good, POWERFUL, but was a bit too fruit forward for me....2000 was a subtle beauty....!989 was a gem....but it was the 1996 that got Bobby out of his seat

2004 as a whole on the left bank is wonderful, one of my favorites.
