San Francisco Offline: Sat Oct 21 ?

I have to be in the City of San Francisco on the weekend of October 21 and 22, and wanted to take the temperature for pulling together an offline.

Most likely would be the evening Saturday October 21, in the city, at some corkage friendly venue.

Theme would be Bordeaux (of course).

If you're interested, please chime in, and then we can take all the final planning offline on to an email thread.

Lurkers -- who haven't met anyone here yet -- feel free to join. Everyone here at some point was a stranger who turned into a friend!

I've booked a table for us at a French restaurant in the Forest Hill neighborhood.

Details are as follows

Saturday, October 21, 6:00pm
Chouchou
400 Dewey Blvd
San Francisco, CA
(415) 242-0960
http://www.chouchoubistro.com/

We have a table for 8, and corkage will be $150 in total covering 10 bottles, which should be plenty. I told the chef we'll be selecting from the $65 prix fixe menu since that makes ordering/settlements smoother. I'm probably the only person gauche enough to do this, but please, no Groupons/discounts for this night.

People can take a look at the prix fixe / regular menu, and if there is great outrage over the French food choices, let me know. Given that its San Francisco, with all the gluten free - vegan - pescatarian residents, I think they can deal with whatever concerns we might have.

We're probably overpaying a little for what it is - these seem more like haut cuisine prices for a non destination French place - but it seems to have a decent rep among SF wine tasting groups. And realistically large groups on weekend nights will always have some issue getting tables for a whole night, unless its a steakhouse, where the value proposition is often questionable.

Obviously, the theme is Bordeaux. I don't think their stemware is anything to sing praises about, so I'm going to bring a box of my travel stems. If possible, I recommend others do that as well.

See everyone next month.

I like Arv's choice.

Not to throw a spanner in the works, but I know a wine guy that, if we invite him and he can come (and he will bring good wine because he has a good cellar), can probably get us free corkage at:

Gardenias (http://www.gardenias-sf.com)

I've never been so I can't comment on the food, atmosphere or service.

I think we'll stick with the original venue for now. If something changes we may need your suggestion as a backup.

If you want to invite your friend, feel free. But note that we have a 10 bottle cap for the table, so pls contain them to one contribution.

See you soon!

I would rather have a smaller group and more wine for us all, so just Nalan and I.

I don't think Bill & Linda are coming (although they are most welcome of course!) so my count is 8 currently.

I would love to come but I booked a last minute deal to the Island of Hawaii this week, so I'll be out of State. Enjoy.
