2001 Sociando Mallet

Post by William P »

The 2001 Sociando was popped and poured, no decanting. This bottle was close to maturity but has many years left. Good balance, medium bodied. I found no cedar or leather components on the nose. Blackberry, earth and herbs on the palate. One glaring element is the presence of green. I don't know if this is from unripe grapes or petit verdot but it was present and a bit distracting this night. But for the green this would be an above average wine. I usually love SM but on this night is was good rather than great.

William, although that green element is a classic component of SM, I agree that it is stronger than usual and distracting on the 2001. Cheers!
