2005 Lopez Heredia Riserva and 2012 Clusel-Roch Côte Rôtie

Last night, birthday dinner for my father. We had two different red wines with meal.
The 2005 R. Lopez Heredia Rioja Riserva was having an evolved light red with orange rim. I was expecting a lot but that bottle was ok but not great. Medium aromas of old wood, light vanilla, cherries, smoked spices. In mouth, very light, and mostly on the balsamic and spicy wood flavors. Some wet wood too. Pop and poured, maybe decanting would have helped. Tn: 88.
To have better success with the following wine, my father choose the 2012 Clusel-Roch Côte Rôtie. This northern Rhône red was very classic, and in a sense a very rewarding wine. Great nose of rasberry jam, bacon, smoke, and even light red flowers. In mouth, light and intense at the same time, concentrated rasberries, meat flavors, with a great core of fruit. Some viloet flowers, more meat, good freshness and tannins. Long final with mineral an blackberry fruit. So good, drink with interest and without guilt. Tn: 92.
