Post by Nicklasss »

Alone with the kids tonight, MC having a Christmas party dinner, i opened a bottle of that gigantic estate, the 2010. Let see what it got!

Very Cabernet Sauvignon and austere style. Dark red mix with purple color. Nose of very black blackberries, copper penny, blackcurrants, fresh black licorice, and smoky ashes. In mouth, the 2010 tannins and freshness are there. Again, lots of structured cabernet dark berries, but with texture, prunes, some spiciness. Not super long but some nice wood and earthy tones mixed with acidic berries. Well made but limited. Tn: 88. Maybe a few years will help.

I bought a couple cases of this vintage and have opened a few over the last couple years.
My most recent bottle seemed a bit awkward, whereas earlier bottles were more focused.
A lengthy decant is helpful.

The 2007, which is a lighter bodied wine, is drinking very well now.

I remember enjoying the 1996 eons ago. Sherry Lehman in NYC was a big promoter of this estate.

I finished a bottle of the 2010 last night, started on Saturday.
It's coming around nicely.
My simple tasting note from Cellartracker:
8/13/2018 - Sweet cherry and tart blackberry with mild cedar and sweet oak notes.
Medium short dry finish with well resolved tannins.
Drinking very well now with a little bit of air.

This chateau offers a reliably good cellar defender, often available for under $20. I have 60 bottles in my cellar right now, covering the 4 vintages '09 - '12, with half of them from the '12 vintage. I plan to start buying 2014s as soon as my FLLS has them on the shelf.
I've consumed 52 bottles so far, covering vintages from 2006-2012, excluding '08 which I never saw available. The '06 and '07s were just starting to show secondary characteristics at 10 years from vintage.
The '09 - '12s are all easily enjoyed at this point in their development IMO.

We don't see this much out West, but I remember good bottles from living in the East.

If you like this estate, check out Greysac which is likely also widely available there.

I find the L-T to be a better wine in general, at least since I started drinking Bordeaux 4 years ago.
For my palate, 2011 is the high point for Greysac in the recent past, better than '10 and '12.
