Boy, I've been sick as a dog...

Post by JimHow »

Can't shake this cold, now in its 7th day.
Coughing, sneezing, feeling like crap. Can't breathe at night.
All the usual stuff, Nyquil, Robitussin, etc., etc., not even making a dent.
I had a daylong trial yesterday and I felt like crap.
Fortunately today was a blizzard and the courts were closed.
What do you guys do to relieve the symptoms.
It came on strong last Wednesday, so tomorrow will make a week.
It has been a brutal one!

My wife is suffering from the same. Nothing she's taken has relieved the congestion and now it's moving into her chest. She's an RN and still can't find anything that works.

I guess Ch Meyney is not a cure for the common cold? Lol

Ha I drank half the bottle of that Meyney, I’m feeling a notch better this evening, hoping that with a good night’s sleep I’ll conquer it.
Yesterday in a daylong trial with an asshole attorney general was brutal.

Stay in bed, drink a lot of water, hot liquids, chicken soup. Ibuprofen for aches and pains. Pseudoephedrine (ask your MD first if this is an issue with other meds or if you have hypertension) plus nasal spray decongestant at bedtime to breathe enough to get to sleep. Dextromethorphan at bedtime to suppress the cough if it’s keeping you up.

Rest when you’re exhausted. Feels better.

I have been using the Mucinex DM stuff a lot recently. It's the branded name for guafenex, and basically helps push out / dry out the mucous so that the coughing stops and the breathing improves.

Only problem is it leaves a weird after taste in the mouth so nothing quite tastes right while you're on it, in addition to the general smell loss.

If DM is for dextromethorphan, it’s also a cough suppressant. Very useful if the cough is getting the better of you. I use just the guaifenesin alone as an expectorant without the cough suppressant to help get the mucus out during the day if the cough isn’t too bad.

I also like a humidifier in the bedroom to reduce drying from congestion-induced mouth-breathing while sleeping.

I also have the office epidemic. Nearly done with it. I take 500mg of vitamin C 4x daily.
