I recall that opening paragraph in “A Thousand Days,” when there was like an inch of snow at Kennedy’s inauguration, and it nearly shut down the city. Looks like we are getting six inches or more in the DC area? What is the local weather report in DC for Thursday to Sunday?

Today, rain changing to snow this afternoon, then snow, snow and more snow - biggest snowstorm in two years. Weather is supposed to be fine Thursday, Friday, Saturday with highs in the mid-40s. Then chance of light rain/snow Sunday morning.

things should be fine by Thursday afternoon, but if you have a plane coming in Wednesday that could be an issue.

I’m driving from Maine to NYC tomorrow then on to DC Thursday morning.
It’s going to suck.

OMG, that will suck. Stay safe! At least if you get ditched in a snowdrift you'll have plenty of wine to drink in the trunk

Its supposed to start snowing in Hartford around 7am.
You'd better leave very early.

You want my cell # in case the going gets tough when you reach CT?

Forecast is now for 12-16 inches in NYC area plus ice, 8-14 inches in Boston, starting very early in the morning. You would probably face whiteout conditions at times tomorrow. I actually would leave now if you can.

I cant, I have my nephew’s birthday party this evening here in Maine.
Wow this is going to be a big one!
I’ll figure it out, the Blue Demon (a/k/a my 278,000 mile 2008 Toyota Corolla) handles pretty well in the snow.
Hopefully I won’t have any trouble getting out of New York on Thursday morning.
I’ll get there!!

Good luck Jim and above all be safe. Don't be foolish (i.e. don't do anything I would do) just to get here if the roads are awful.

But you do need to be here by Saturday in case Peggy and I need to be bailed out.

Thanks boys, I’ll be careful.
I’m a Mainah! I’ve driven through much worse conditions.
But you are right, the number one rule is to not be stupid.
Wrapping up the great lobster birthday party, we had 2012 La Fleur de Bouard, 2012 St. Innocent Justice Vineyard, 2012 Domaine de la Janasse, all very lovely.
Gonna go home and do some last minute packing.
I’ll keep you posted on my progress!
I’m scheduled to be at a lunch in Fairfax at noon on Thursday, I’ll see you Thursday night at Black Salt!!

I grew up in Michigan and lived many years in Albany, so the driving in snow gene is well developed. I know you wont ne foolish.

If Macarthur's next door to Blacksalt has 2014s at half off, save a few for me. You know, the one who is done buying.

Safe travels!

It hasn't started snowing yet here, so Jim should make it to NYC ok today. Although the closer he gets to the city the worse the roads are bound to be.

First snow came at 10:10am Chris, about a half hour south of Hartford.
The drive to NYC was smooth, light snow, no accumulation.
I crossed the GW Bridge at exactly noon.
It’s snowing but not really that bad in the NJ Turnpike just south of Newark.
The snow is not accumulating, although there are slick spots here and there, it’s a wet mix of rain and snow.
I was going to stop in NY but figured I’d take advantage of the decent driving conditions and get as far south as I can.
My goal is to get to DC by supper time, we’ll see how conditions evolve.

Roads around Baltimore were bad by noon, though the interstates should be passable. We're looking at 10-12 inches north and west of the city by morning. Looks like about 4-5 inches on the deck so far.

Here in the middle of DC things actually look OK right now, a lot of snow has come down but it has melted off pretty quickly. Not as much accumulation as I expected.

The sun is peeking through here at the Chesapeake House rest stop.
It really hasn’t been that bad, a couple slick stretches at the southern end of the Jersey Turnpike but otherwise the roads have been pretty well maintained. Plus there is greatly reduced traffic.
Knock on wood, I’m hoping to be in DC by dark!

It's cold as a bastard here in Maine.
I'm getting a little fed up with this.
we are approaching mid-April.
We are going to get more snow tonight, and then more snow early next week.
Temps were down in single digits the other night with the windchill.
This is what it is like to watch a local weather forecast in Maine in April:

http://www.newscentermaine.com/article/ ... 7-31689757

Alas, however, the Sox are in first place.
And I'm sipping on some sort of Cailloux Quartz something or other, from 2012.
Very, very nice.
After another day of beating up on some district attorneys.
hey, they deserve the beatings. They deserve it. All these assholes want to do is put poor people in jail for stupid shit.
so, I have to punch them out in court. these young prosecutors these days are punks. They watch too much TV.
but it is nice to put these little lawyer wannabes in their place.
Very nice indeed.

Here too Jim. Yesterday, 14 inches of snow! Not 5, 8 or 12, FOURTEEN!

Back to -10 to - 15 Celsius (about what , 4 F?). Very tough.

All week a deep freeze again with howling winds and driving snow yesterday in Ottawa. Power outages spotty through the city. Another 1 -2 inches coming this afternoon. Thank god we`ll be on a morning plane to New Orleans...if it gets off the ground after de-icing! Thank god because this winter is sure going out like a lion this year and hopefully two weeks from now the tulips/daffodills will be up and the courses will almost ready to open. At least I should get a few warm up rounds with my brother who will be celebrating his 65th next Thursday with us in Hilton Head to prepare for the upcoming golf season!!

PS Sergio made every golfer out there feel a little better yesterday plunking 4 wedges in a row in the water on the short par 5 15th taking a 13!!

I hear you all, but not a lot of sympathy from me here in Minnesota -- local Lakes have 26" of ice and Northern lakes have 30" plus. Fishing opener is in 4 weeks! I may have to bring my auger.

Snow delay at the start of the Colorado Rockies game yesterday in Denver. Also about 25 degrees at the start of the game.
