It's cold as a bastard.

Post by JimHow »

Man, I've had about enough of this BS.
"Only" minus 16 this morning.
This week it's going to get even worse, a big storm on Thursday to be followed by the coldest days yet.
I'll be road tripping to Florida in about two weeks!

Jim,

I'd trade your -16 as we had -27 with windchill -35 this am. Crazy cold for the last week and a half in Ottawa. Too cold to do anything. Yes the icewine producers are happy. There is no issue this year about harvesting which must occur with temps below -8c which happened over Christmas. Love that Inniskillin icewine but far prefer a good Sauterne. Higher acid and alcohol brings better balance. I find after a glass of icewine they seem flabby and I get saturated unlike Sauterne. I like them but more like desert than anything else. The cab franc and cab sauv icewines are fabulous like strawberry jam in a bottle. A real treat in small doses.

FYI:

You guys can keep your bragging rights. I’m freezing my candy ass off here below the Mason-Dixon line despite awakening to a comparatively balmy 7 degrees. And a big storm, a "bomb cyclone" no less, followed by even colder weather is on its way.

We’re heading to FL in February, which almost guarantees it’ll be warm at home while we’re down there.

Stop crying. Here, 2 hours drive north of Québec City, it has been colder than -21 C for the last 17 days. With lot of snow too. I don't complaint as the cross country skiing conditions are great!

I prefer a cold and snowy winter to icing rain.

We could use some of the cold weather over here. We need more snow in Western ski country.

So much for global warming. Cold in Florida from what I've heard as well from friends. At least skiing today was fantastic.

I'm in Umbria now headed down to Rome today. Yesterday was 55 and sunny - today and tomorrow will be in the low 60s. Normally it should be 40 or so here.

I feel sorry for ya'll. We got home yesterday afternoon. After work today I think I'll go to the driving range since I hope to have time for a round next week and the weather will be perfect for golf.

My flight from Tel Aviv to Newark (then Sarasota) was cancelled.
Next flight with available seats on Tuesday.
You guys better get this bomb cyclone mess sorted out quickly.

Awoke to 7 degrees F, winds still howling but not as fiercely as yesterday. Low of 3 predicted tonight but less wind. At least we avoided the snow.

Maybe mild stuff for you Down Easters and Canadians, but more than I’m happy with.

That's rough for DC/MD, David.
I remember the first line of Arthur Schlesinger's "A Thousands Days": "It all began in the cold."
He was describing the snowy DC conditions of the Kennedy inauguration and the snarls they caused.
It's supposed to get to -22F in Lewiston tonight, that's without the windchill.
It's supposed to warm up this week though Jacques, so I think you'll be alright.

Cold isn't the word here in Ottawa this am. -38c without windchill and we're expecting a full house this afternoon from Montreal with Danielle's family coming in to have a little end of holiday celebration. Her brother has already called concerned about the drive with black ice on the roads and cars in ditches everywhere along the highways. For those living elsewhere black ice occurs when condensation on the roads freezes spontaneously and it looks like water/dampness on the road but its really a skating rink. Salt doesn't work because it's too cold and sand just gets pushed blown to the side. Treacherous out there and I hope that it warms up a bit so their drive becomes safer or we have to cancel for everyone's safety. Fingers crossed as it would be sad to have the weather/cold interfere with the family coming together for our annual celebration.

I understand you dstgolf, -42 C up here, even the heating system in the house has a tough time keeping the place warm! My next electricity bill gonna break a record!

I went to put gas in the car last night, stopped after 40 $, it was too cold to continue!

-100F wind chill in NH!!!

Move to the south. Here it is time for me to put on shorts and go to the driving range. Besides being able to stay warm, you can help us vote out the people running our governments.

Low’s of under 30* for the next week here in the suburbs of NYC but we definitely escaped the expected snowfalls today (which I am sure you received in full force)

Bring me back to Sarasota. Snow has been coming down for two days with a new foot of snow on the ground and still coming til at least tomorrow. Sub zero weather til next week. Sugar bushes stopped running and there`s so much snow still on the ground I`d be surprised if we`re out on the course by MAY!! Price to pay for living in the coldest Capital City in the world. I was hoping that windbag Trudeau would spread a little hot air around town to heat things up a bit. All he can do is play Mr Dressup and insult the leaders around the world. You think your leader in embarrassing!!

Sarasota has been cold as well, I had to wear a sweatshirt and jeans the last few days :-).
Ok, sorry, I shouldn't brag, but that's why we left the NorthEast.
We're off to NYC Friday then Paris Saturday. I am packing coats and sweaters that I haven't worn in years.

About to go to the beach in Uruguay. Nice day - about 80. A couple of puffy clouds and a cool breeze off the ocean. I'll be barbecuing pastured-raised beef and blood sausage tonight while drinking small production Urguayan tannat.

Southern Hemisphere in winter is awesome.

We had it easy this time. Only about 8 inches of fairly dry snow in central CT.
The previous one damaged a lot of trees and bushes.
At least in our area each storm is melting off before the next one arrives.
