Article on good value Bx. in the NY Times

Post by AlexR »

So goddam refreshing to read the following:

“The dominant image of Bordeaux is one of imposing chateaus, patrician proprietors and stratospheric prices. As far as the most famous properties go, in the best-known regions, that image holds a lot of truth, though most of the patricians are now corporate executives.
Yet that is only part of the Bordeaux story. The greater Bordeaux region is made up of many small family estates. Their wines are not classified, their residences are rarely imposing, and their wines (relatively speaking) are not that expensive.
That’s where the notion of value comes in. With these wines, you are not paying a premium for famous names or for the high status of their appellations”.

The article is superficial, but I am glad to see that opinion leaders are getting past the expensive name wines!

Best regards,
Alex R.

Asimov writes some good stuff...but stuff like this where they are chatting up bad vintages from the most expensive importers (conveniently his friends!) don't really sing the value tale well. ($40 for some unknown haut medoc?! )

K&L pretty much always has some good BDX on their 'insider' list in the $15-$25 zone and they ship to a good number of states.

Why is this guy promoting overpriced minor wines from the worst Bordeaux vintage since 1984?

Two things I really, really dislike: vintage generalizations and 2013 Bordeaux.

Sorry, I don't see this fitting the definition of an oxymoron.

Isn't saying "I dislike 2013 Bordeaux" a vintage generalization?
So Stefan said he doesn't like vintage generalizations at the same time as he made a vintage generalization.
If that's not an oxymoron it's still cut from the same cloth.

He should have chatted up the $20ish 2014 Lillian Ladouys or something like that.
