Had to share this with my BWE brother's and sisters

Purchased from a local retailer right down the street...was once a low key wine hangout named Cavanaugh's...now bought out and turned into a little hipster wine joint called Digress. They r doing nice things there.

I was rummaging through their stash and ran into this....so glad I did.

Holy sweet baby Jesus this is fantastic

This is your englishman's claret your old school stalwart, your classic hit.

This is Bordeaux, this is why we seek Bordeaux, this is why we speak, dream, read, share and wax poetically about the extolls of Bordeaux.

Is this as ripe as a 2000? Nope, because it's riper. Is this as complex as 2000? Nope, it's more complex.

This is bordeaux

More leather than Alfert's cheek-chiller chaps
More tobacco leaf than a Phillip Morris convention.
More black cherry to destroy every free radical in sight.
Enough earth to send wind and fire into hiding.
Enough acid to leave your enamel in a state of PTSD.
Enough florals to think this was hand delivered by 1-800 flowers
As much ageability as the actors in the movie cocoon

This is bordeaux

It's proud

It's unapologetic

It answers to no one

I am smitten, I am under it's spell

This Is Fuqn Bordeaux!!!

I read your note on Wine Berserkers earlier.
However, I had never associated your alter ego until just now. You have been unmasked.

I have a few young bottles of Potensac in my cellar.
I've been enjoying the 2003 for a couple years, but it obviously doesn't rise to the level of the '97.
The 2014 and 2015 look to be good vintages too.

Same as Chris-Marc = RobertGoulet! You need to get BobbyA over here....surprised about '97, I don't think I have ever tried any '97 Bordeaux, maybe I should.

Thanks for posting this....

1996 was an ok year too. Other than the big years, this estate seems a bit lean to me though.

Great note Robert. Potensac, from the Delon, owner of LLC, can't be bad.

I guess that 1997 is just drinking perfectly at the moment. But at it birth, it was quite expensive compared to 1995 or 1996.

A curiosity: this week i bought a very unique bottle of Potensac, the 2017 Rosé de Potensac.

Poujeaux also famously overachieved in 1997

A great post!

Isn't it nice when you come across a surprise like that?!

A lot of people would flee considering the appellation and the vintage, but the estate is, of course, one of the top in the AOC Médoc.

And "little vintages" can sometimes be a great joy, as you have just proved.

A great tune, fitting to your response, from an epic band.

I didn’t buy many 1997 Bordeaux and drank them fairly young. Looks like I missed a treat or two.

I had a lunchtime 1997 Mouton in a little midtown bistro the first day I met Jacques and Arv, it was sublime.

Jim, remember the lovely '97 Ducru we bought off the list in DC a few years ago?

1997 Bdx is true; just light.

Indeed, the 1997 Ducru was beautiful, what was that, about 6-8 years ago?
We had the 1997 Mouton at Le Bon Souppe in Manhattan must have been around 2002ish?

One of the most enjoyable wines I ever had — seriously— was the 1992 Talbot. I had a case purchased in the mid 90’s for a song. Shockingly good for a long stretch but it finally cracked up around 2008/9. It was complex, showing as much cigarbox as I’ve ever found in a wine, early maturing, with plenty of stuffing especially for a 92, and just never failed to satisfy. Sounds like your 97 Potensac.
