Bordeaux Wine Enthusiasts

On a recent trip to the Zion, Bryce and the Grand Canyon I spent the first night in Vegas. I brought this wine from the cellar to have with a meal at the French Restaurant, Partage. I highly recommend the restaurant, I can do without the town.

A wonderful nose, starting with herbs and earth, evolving to a floral scent, book leather, and berries. Medium-bodied on the palate. Nicely balanced with some tannins remaining but it is reaching a mature plateau. Well structured. Medium length. Good acidity. Medium finish. An elegant wine fit for an incredible meal.

It can age a few more years, but the 2001 Pichon Lalande is at a good place right now. If I were to give it a grade about 92.

We have been traveling a lot lately, mainly running away from the ecological disaster of the Florida red tide, so we did spend four days in Vegas last month. My first trip there since 1982. Not my kind of town either but the Four Seasons had a cheap (relatively) rate, has a quiet pool with great salads and does not have a casino. We did have some great food at Mesa Grill and some real bad food at Charlie Palmer steak but Cirque du Soleil, the fountains at the Bellagio, the Chihuly exhibits, the Mob Museum and the Penn and Teller show were a lot of fun, we also took a drive to the Hoover Dam which was fascinating.
If we go again, we'll try Partage.

As I said in that thread, it was tremendous, and I would have rated it higher than a 92...maybe 94-95

I have five more bottles, should tap a few this winter!

David, corkage was $25.00. The total bill came to $250.00 (2 people) but it was a memorable meal. I don't mind paying for quality.

Marcs, I'm a tough grader and I'm probably low. It was a beautiful wine and a wonderful meal. Enjoy your remaining bottles.

Vegas? Is that in Nevada?

Remarkably I have spent only half a day there on a business trip. No desire to return soon.

Our annual Academy meeting is in Las Vegas about every 5 years. I have little interest in going there otherwise, though I hear some of the shows are decent.

Always interested in good places with corkage as a few of us get together for a wine dinner at the start of the meeting.

Agree with you about town, but there are some nice things to do, as Jacques noted. I was not impressed with 2001 Pichon Lalande when I drank it a few years ago. I have another bottle and will have to give it another go.

Since some are welcoming tourists with pellet guns, Vegas has downgrade into my list of "ust visit" place.

There are so much artificial things everywhere, Vegas seems almost real.

Wow it's been a long time since I've been to Vegas. Maybe 2009? We did the Hoover Dam too.

Whatever that steak place was in the Paris hotel - not sure if it is still there - was not too bad and it felt 'frenchy' if that is worth anything.

Given that there are typically leisure / cheap flights to McCarran from everywhere, maybe that might be a possibility for a BWE confab some year? Just rent a big suite room and BYO / catered platters. A bunch of wine geeks is a lot better for the typical hotel than a Bachelor/Hen party....

I saw Quebec's sweetheart is no longer going to be playing LV anymore.
