Oh, by the way, shared a 1983 Talbot with Marjorie about a month ago - it was really good.

83' PIchon Baron as a back-up.
Look forward to seeing everyone in a month or so.

Patrick - Thinking through some options. Because we are travelling x thousand miles we are probably better off bringing wines which are not fragile, which can withstand being in the baggage. I was thinking of 1989 and 2000 Beychevelle, which is drinking very well. Or 1986 Pichon Lalande and Ducru. Or controversially for fun we could bring bottles of the 2015 LLC and Pontet Canet which probably could survive anything for a Jim How kind of experiment. I am just thinking out loud. But have time to review some other options tomorrow. Also a mystery white wine.

Entirely up to you, Ian. All of those choices sound great.*

*Chris B brought an 86 Pichon Lalande to a Denver offline last year that blew us all away.

Traveling with old fragile wines is risky, Ian. I also avoid doing that when flying internationally.

1986 Pichon Lalande is one of my favorites, BTW, but the others would also be great.

1986 Pichon Lalande is one of my top ten favorite wines.
I like it even better than the '82.

Not sure how much earlier you arrive in the US before 3/28, but if it’s like 4+ days, you’re welcome to ship your “olive oil” via FedEx to me so it can settle for a few days beforehand. Drop me note if you’d like to do this.

That said, I’ve brought some 80’s Bordeaux with me on long flights and it held up remarkably well for opening up the next day.

Gail won't be attending Thursday so there's room for one more if there's interest.

Unless another out of towner wants a spot — let me know if that’s the case— two locals (Steve and Ricky) will take in the spots of Marjorie and Gail.

Hi all.

One Sauternes is not enough for that group. Please add a bottle of the 1988 Chateau Lafaurie Peyraguey, courtesy of JeanFred and me.

See you all soon.

A little 1982 taste off developing, Branaire, Talbot, Certan de May.
I think the last time I had an '82 Branaire was when the Anonymous Benfactor brought some to NYC '03.
I've got '82 Leoville Barton as a backup/alternative to Certan for Thursday, will bring it along with my '89 Tertre Rotebouef on Saturday if we don't drink it on Thursday.

Blanquito wrote:This thread will serve to get the Thursday night event organized over the next few months. We have a private room at a nice place with no bottle limit and a la carte access to the menu. Including tip, tax, etc, it’s usually right about $100/each.

I propose starting things off with a flight of serious champagne, and then we can go from there.

1983 Bordeaux
1983 Talbot — Patrick and Brendan
1983 Gruaud Larose — Patrick and Brendan
1983 Canon — Patrick and Brendan
1983 l'Evangile — Steve
1983 Latour — Stefan
1983 Lynch-Bages — Stefan
1983 Pichon Lalande — Chris B.
1983 Mouton Rothschild — Gene

1982 & 1990 Bordeaux
1982 Certan de May — JimHow
1982 Branaire Ducru — Tom
1982 Talbot — Tom
1990 Pape Clement (2 bottles) — Nic and JeanFred

Sauternes
1983 de Fargues (750 ml) — Patrick and Brendan
1988 Lafaurie Peyraguey — Nic and JeanFred
Location?
I'm packing up a case or so.
Kind regards - Gene

Can I bring a couple bottles of Dom Perignon, Patrick, or do you think we have enough champagne?

We’re probably set for Thursday but not much champagne at all has been declared for Friday or Saturday. You could bring a Dom to Thursday and I could switch my Pol Roger to another night if you prefer.

Ok sounds good, I'll bring one bottle of Dom on Thursday, and I'll bring two bottles of champagne to each of the Friday and Saturday night dinners, probably more Dom and some other nice bottles. we could definitely use more Champagne, especially Saturday night, which is always a nice tradition. So I'll load 6 bottles of champaign, 1 for Thurs, 2 for Fri, 2 for Sat, and one for the room.

I added these 2 the list, Ian. Given this, I am changing what my crew (me, Brendan and Steve) and I are bringing-- we will bail out on the 83 Right Banks, and instead bring the 82 Cos, and the 83 Talbot and Gruaud.

,

I'm packing up my winecheck now.
Thinking of 4-6 bubbles
Bringing 2x Krug NV, maybe the 98' Vintage to compare w/ 88', can drink them any night
Sitting on the fence on the Vilmart. 2x, GR or GC, and 00' Vintage Couer dC
If we still light I have some options: Pol Roger SWC (98', 00 vintage), Taittinger BdB 00, 06, Bolly Grand Annee (99, 00, 04)

Need to reserve the space for the reds:
- Thurs: 83 Mouton, 83' Pichon as backup, any champagne as noted
- Fri: 2x Guigal Lala's or 87 Dominus/87 'Diamond Creek, any champagne as noted
- Sat: 2x 89' Las Case, 89 Sauternes, any champagne left over
