BWE Denver 2019 Friday wine planner

Post by DavidG »

We've got threads for Thursday and Saturday, so why not Friday?

Friday is usually anything but Bordeaux. I usually bring Rhone. Burgs, Italians, California, and for whites German Riesling and Champagne are also popular. I'll start with the following as possible candidates:

1988 Krug
1989 Jaboulet Hermitage La Chapelle

Not sure what I'll bring, but thinking about:

1999 Clape Cornas
1999 Clos des Goisses or Tattinger Comptes de Champagne
1999 Potel Clos Vougeot

I have to check what I have but I can definitely bring
1989 Dominus
1974 Montelena Estate (not Mondavi, sorry)
And maybe another 70s California Cab
I'll also bring a couple of White Burgs. We're in NYC till next year so I won't have a final list for another few days.

If we focus on Rhone and older Cali cabs I think I'll bring:

- 06/08 LaTurque/La Landonne/La Mouline, or an Ermitage
- 87 Diamond Creek, I also have an 87' Dominus or go back a yr to 86': Beringer PR (spec WOTY), Pahlmeyer, Spottswoode

Bubbles?: If we drink the Vilmart on Thurs, I'll offer up the Krugs on Fri, or vice versa.
I have someTaittinger Comtes de Champagne BdB 00, 06 and 03 Rose, (but the bottles are hard to pack...)

Gene, love those Guigals! I was thinking the same thing about how to pack Champagne and mags. The Comtes bottles are particularly fat-bottomed.

You make the rockin' world go round!

Someone posted on CT Forum that they fit Comtes bottles in a standard styrofoam shipper. I'll check and if it works I’ll use that and a Wine Check for all but the mags. Will have to get a separate styrofoam shipper to fit the mags.

What a great concert and venue! They don't make concerts like they used to. The large concert venue was sadly the end of an era though we didn't understand at the time.

Along with the 1974 Montelena mentioned above, I'm bringing a 1989 Dominus (I edited my post to reflect this) not 1987.
Also 1978 William Hill Cabernet Sauvignon. I'm sure Cabfan remembers this well. Hopefully this bottle is still good.
2015 Francois Carillon Puligny Folatieres (2 bottles)

From California, I can bring a 1991 Fisher Wedding. Also will bring a (to be determined later) white Burgundy. Other wine will be a surprise Bordeaux blend from an obscure location.

Is anyone thinking about bringing Burgundy or Pinot Noir? I can go CA Cab and Rhone. However, I prefer Burgundy for Friday and could bring 1998 Jacques Prieure Musigny, 2002 Jadot Gritotte-Chambertin, and, for calibration, 2003 St Innocent Seven Springs Special Selection.

Allo Stefan

Also fan of Pinot, I’m in for Burgundy!

To pair or compare to your Griotte, I can bring a Chapelle-Chambertin Grand Cru Jadot 2002.

Sounds like a good Burg turnout is shaping up. Sadly no Burgs here.
Anyone besides SFEd, Gerry and me bringing Rhônes?
Ed, if you bring 99 Clos des Goisses I can bring a 96.

After digging through the top crust of the "Pile O' Wine" ™,I came up with 1998 Guado al Tasso and 2006 Paolo Bea Sagratino Pagliaro. I think I'm running the risk of being shunned by the Cabernet and Burg tables...

There's nothing wrong with 1998 Guado and 2006 Paolo Bea. I would gladly drink those anytime

It will be a real rampage on Friday!

To my bottle of 1990 Barolo Azelia Bricco Fiasco, add another bottle of the 1990 Barolo Marcarini La Serra. I don't drink nebbiolo often at home, Marie-Claude preferring other type of red wines. So the Anything but Bordeaux night is perfect for me. I'll sit near MichaelP if he still plan to bring a 2001 Barolo Spinetta Vursu.

I delivered my Fri+Sat BWE Denver wines to Denver a month ago so they could rest to ready for the battles.
They are sitting in my Denver friend's a cool dark cellar.
So no change in the wines on my side.
Happy to sit next to you Nic!
