Hello from Shanghai

Post by Nicklasss »

Been in China for a week an having long days of work last week but lot of fun to be here for the first time. I had mostly tea, beer and moutai since i'm here. One chinese red wine that was very ok.

Lots of new meal i eat everything: sea cucumber, jelly fish, beef ears, sea snails, fugu fish, sea knife, and some scary small size crustaceans. Even some (i don't remember the name) butterfly before they're butterfly.

My abilities with sticks is now medium and my shopping negotiating skills are improving.

Tonight will be a dinner at a fancy restaurant for my birthday, that is tomorrow. A fun time.

For the convention payments, i'll get to that quickly when i'm back.

Happy Birthday, Nic. Have a great day!!

Unlike some of you kids, when I hear mention of Shanghai, I don't think of Shanghai Surprise. I'm really old so Marlene Dietrich as Shanghai Lilly in the early 1930s movie Shanghai Express is what comes to mind.

Yesterday, a nasty stingray meal. Like eating a blob. Today, some yak in Xining that was succulent.

I'm now habituated to have fruit with a noodle soup for breakfast, with tea. Saw some 2002 Lafite for... 21000 RMB! Hope it is not fake for the one who are buying.

Haha I plugged that into a currency converter but was one 0 short and was like $310.76 for a 2002 Lafite is a deal but then realized what I had done ... yikes!

I think I have three 2002 Lafites in the cellar.
It is a beauty, as I recall.

Nic,

Nice time to be in China when Trudeau is slinging muck with the Chinese leadership. First he was in shit with Putin sticking his nose in over Ukraine then fighting Trump over Nafta getting the cold shoulder in Charlevoix at the G7 and they've never been able to see eye to eye since. Saudi are pissed and withdrew their entire embassy staff from Ottawa/Canada and now Canada rubs their noses in it by allowing asylum for an 18 yr old girl claiming to be persecuted by her parents(how many 18yr olds don't feel that way!!) and now China locking up two Canadian diplomats and sentencing an accused drug dealer to death as a tit for tat following the arrest of the Huaweii CFO in Vancouver at the request of the Americans. I don't think any Canadian is safe in China right now so keep your head low and out of trouble. No accusations of fake Lafite because that might get you 20 years!!! This world is a pretty crazy place right now where people don't know right from wrong and there is no longer support amongst the previously saner nations of the world. Where the hell is all this headed??

Indeed, I paid exactly $100 each for four bottles at Garnet.

If Nicola gets arrested inChina we will send in a BWE rescue team.
I was once an American spy in Russia, you know.

It's an unbelievable story, involving two six foot tall female Russian "interpreters."
We were with Daniel Ellsburg in the defense ministry building in Moscow.
I was kidnapped with this guy Brad Martin from Tennessee who went on to become the CEO of Saks Fifth Avenue.

Back to Canada. I feel very safe in China and i was very welcome as a Canadian. The Chinese like very much Canada. It was a great business time. And want it or not, i should go more in the future... and maybe as soon as in 3-4 months.

Shanghai a very commercial city, my first impression it is like a well organized chaotic city. All kind of buildings mixed together, crazy traffic and drivers, the newest articles in all brand stores.... i like it. Only one thing was missing.... good wines.
