TN: 59 Magdelaine
TN: 59 Magdelaine
59 Magdelaine (22 January 09 in New York)(Armand Roux, Bercut Vandervoort) - light prune color and very cloudy. Rich nose lots of black fruits. Initially quite acidic, but big and rich with lots of concentrated raspberry and blackberry, some strawberry, some subtle complexity, touches of old wine dust and petrol. Increased concentration and viscosity over an hour. Nice two minute finish with strong but soft tannins. 92
Re: TN: 59 Magdelaine
Hello, Mchael,
Interesting TN.
I like the 1959 vintage. Many of the wines have a slightly roasted element to them and are a bit coarser than their '61 counterparts. To me, the modern day equivalent for 1959 is 1989.
It sounds like the Magdelaine was past its prime with some VA showing but still interesting. I never heard the expression "old wine dust" but I know what you mean.
