2006 Pichon Lalande uncorked

Post by jckba »

With a bunch of positive experiences with a number of 2006’s, thinking d’Issan, Clerc Milon, Haut Bailly I figured that I would pop the 1st btl from a multi case purchase of the Pichon Lalande in order to check in on where this is at, afterall I do have love for the wines from this legendary estate.

2006 Pichon Lalande
Decanted for 2.5 hours and truth be told, it really needed it in order to unlock its beautifully fragrant perfume of cassis, blackberry, leather and tobacco which gave way to a plush, ripe, sweet, multidimensional berry filled palate but with slightly drying expresso bean tannins on the finish. This is getting there but I am going to Blanquito the remainder of my haul, fingers crossed! (96 point nose and 91 point palate equals 93+ points at this stage in the game)

Pichon Lalande consistently woos me with its perfume. Thanks for the note. I definitely do not have enough Pichon Lalande in my collection.

Ha you read my mind, Jacques, I was going to say the same thing: I don’t drink enough Pichon Lalande.

That discrepancy between nose and palate is to me typical of a wine approaching but not yet arrived at its drinking window. 13 years is still short of when I'd say big classed growths start to drink, which is usually 15 years+

Had a 2002 Pichon Lalande the other day that blew me away, for the vintage particularly.

That's only because you don't believe me when I tell you that 2002L is one of the top vintages in the past 20 years.

Love PLL.
Very nice note.
Agree with Marcs that it usually takes 15 years to hit its sweet spot.
