Newest Arrivals

Post by Bordhead2000 »

Pardon the wine porn, but I'm excited about these. Just arrived today. I think I paid about 2x too much for the Poujeaux. I'm hoping it is so good that I can forget that fact. If not, maybe the blanc will help me get over it.

The '85 Poujeaux bottle looks like it might be in good shape, but drink soon. Poujeaux is a good QPR bordeaux, but not a long ager. I tried an '82 about 6 years ago that was shot. Drink up and good luck.

Thanks John. I will be popping this on Friday, latest. Sorry to hear about your '82. Did it also look like it was in good condition? One of the reasons I went for this was because of the fill level. Looks perfect. I know that isn't a guarantee, but only one indicator...

You seem like a genuine Bordeaux Wine Enthusiast, Bordeauxhead2000.
We certainly welcome such enthusiasm. After all, we are the best wine website in the world.
My only cncern is that I question whether you are here to promote your own wine website, which is generally something we discourage.
We have others here, like AlexR and Ian, who promote their Bordeaux blogs.
But these fellows have been on BWE for many, many years. They've "earned their stripes," so to speak. You are brand new, and are promoting your site.
So, I welcome your enthusiasm and spirit, but I hope your main motivation is not to promote your blog.
It is a fine line, often nuanced, but usually it is just a gut instinct call by the beloved benevolent dictator of this site.
Other than those concerns, I thank you for your enthusiastic participation on BWE.
Sincerely,
JimHow

Hi Jim,
Thank you for the thoughtful response. I can certainly understand how you would feel that way, since I am brand new and have a personal blog. I am a true, blue-in-the-wool Bordeaux enthusiast -- so much so that I created a blog to memorialize my experiences through time. The fellows you have mentioned, that have "earned their stripes", have already taught me a bunch. It is a pleasure to be part of this community, and I chime in on other threads whenever I feel like my input is valuable or relevant. I also post a lot about my experience here, rather than simply posting a link, so that members of this forum can have conversations about my posts without having to navigate to my blog. In fact, I think we have had a few pretty good threads. That being said, I will remove my blog from my signature and stop posting links until such time as I have "earned my stripes". Peace to you and all of the members of this community. Tonight I am enjoying a pretty wonderful Chablis.

it is a difficult job being the Benevolent Dictator, Bobby G, you have to understand that your Kindness deals with many issues, many offline, as he endeavors to strike the proper balance that makes this, BWE, the greatest wine website in the world. Thus, you just have to have complete faith that your kind dicatator, after 19 years and many tens of thousands of posts, has a grasp on the proper management of BWE... The greatest Wine Website in the World.

Sincerely,
Jim How
Your Kind and Benevolent Dictator

I do not doubt these facts, Jim! Thank you for the warm welcome! It is the greatest website in the world.

Robert -- I don't get scared that easily. AND -- with Jim's blessing, I will continue to post my experiences, along with my links, until the barrel runs dry. Cheers!

In the proper Benevolent Dictator lexicon, shouldn't that have been "...that our kindness deals with many issues, many offline, as we endeavor..."?

Tom -- I think I can say, without fear of contradiction, that Jim was referring to himself in the 3rd person -- The Benevolent Dictator is Your Kindness -- the way one may refer to a judge as Your Honor, or the Pope as Your Holiness.
