Labégorce ‘16

Post by CJD »

A Labegorce for the long haul.
Very 2005 style of vintage in the polished creamy mode but giving little in the way of joy at present. Lovely youthful color, looking like it may taste medium or like a good burgundy. Nose needs a bit of poking to reveal the red fruits & a little Margaux whiff of things to come.Hard to cut through the tannins right now but some really polished quite Pauillac esq fruit with a long finish that has a touch of alcohol seemingly more than the 13% labeled.
All in all a wine to lock away for ten years. I’d buy a case but wouldn’t lose too much sleep if I didn’t. Not seeing the 95 points doled out by the En premieur paparazzi. Maybe a 92...eventually.

Thanks CJD.
Sounds a little like the 2016 Prieure Lichine I had.

Very encouraging comments on the 2016 Chateau Labégorce.

Will surely buy if I find some at a good price. Margaux seems to have hit good spots in 2015 and 2016.

That's not too shabby, at $35-ish.

Nice note and I am not sure I have tasted or thought about a Labegorce since a Touton rep poured me an oxidized / had to be 3 day old, poorly vacuumed sample of the 2005 about 10 years ago and was like what do you think eagerly anticipating my response

But if you want value in Margaux, Prieure Lichine as Jim mentioned above or either of the Alexander Van Beek managed properties in du Tetre or Giscours all have a voice that speaks to me and I really feel that they are improving with each passing vintage and that makes me a relatively happy camper.

...and Siran. Margaux appellation pretty hard to beat in most vintages.

I like your choices in Margaux. JC.

Siran makes a good first impression and it’s great QPR. Not sure yet if it will scratch my aged Bordeaux itch given enough time in the cellar. But for what it costs, it doesn’t really have to.
