Denver’s 3rd Annual Pool Party, July 14th

Post by Blanquito »

Modeled on Jacques and Jill’s legendary Westchester affairs, I'm hosting a 3rd annual pool party on July 14 starting mid afternoon. BWE is cordially invited. We will be 6-12 locals (all of whom attended BWE Denver 2019) + some children drinking champagne, white burgundy or Koolaid by the pool with seafood and grilled goodies (kids and the young at heart in the pool). Stay until 6-7 to have steaks and red wine if you like. RSVP.

Will be there with you in spirit Patrick, if not in the flesh.

Given that it is Bastille Day is it French wines only?

I figured you were a long shot, Ian! But we’ll see you in France in 2020, right?

If anyone makes the trek to Colorado, I can organize a wine dinner the night before as well if that helps!

Awwww, sounds awesome Patrick, I would have loved to come but we’d still be on the other side of pond.

I remember Jacques seeking out a massive sized striped bass one year .....and the white Burgundy was flowing faster than the water in the pool....they were some of the best times Julie and i ever had.

Like the others, I wish i could be there. I would really liked to go to enjoy your great company, while sniffing a few Bordeaux. I would have liked to handle one more time with Ted, Steve, blanquito, and the rest of the Denver enthusiasts.

Jal's pool party were special, and even if every BWE is relax, it is even more relaxing next to a pool! Will have a special thought for you guys.

Nic

P.S. there is still 1-2 % chance I sneak in, but that would be possible if an "Act of God" would cancel some other holidays.

Thanks, gents. The door is always open in Denver!

I only went to one of Jal’s pool parties but it was one of my greatest wine experiences. Amongst other highlights, I met Emil for the only time that day and I am pretty sure that was the last time I got to spend some QT with Pappdadoc.

You can bring a double magnum of 2000 Magdelaine.

Seriously, wish I could be there! Someday I'll make it out to Denver for the Blanquito experience...

I already own all the double magnums of the 2000 Magdelaine, but then you knew that. :)

Marcus, get Denver on your itinerary and we’ll show you the Mile High City in style!

Thanks for thinking of us, Nic! I had the guest bedroom ready just in case you decided to join us at the last minute.

So, after filling the swimming pool with 2011 Chateau Magdelaine (we just have too much of that dang stuff) and getting the house ready for the onslaught off 7 children and 12 adults, we settled in for a nice day in Denver-- hot but not too hot, partially cloudy but with some nice bursts of sun, and lots of good cheer and white wines and bubbly.

I was busy hosting and cooking enough that I didn't pay much attention to the wines, but a few did stand out: 2001 Kerpen Auslese Wehlener Sonnenuhr Riesling, 2008 Pol Roger Rose Brut (fabulously delicious and easy to drink), 2010 Gerard Boulay Clos de Beaujea, 2012 Mount Eden Estate Chardonnay (big rich cali chard on the bouquet, but with a serious mineral and acid-driven palate).

Everyone was too full for steaks, so we drank red wines on the patio for a while in the twilight, chatting and enjoying the splendid climate that is Colorado.
