I was shocked to see your post on BWE concerning POCO, one of my favorites! I am a musician , guitar/amplifier collector , radio personality and sometimes music producer who thinks that this band has always deserved a greater spotlight. About a decade ago I produced an excellent show with POCO and Pure Prarie League. Rusty Young (steel) and Paul Young (guitar) were true gentleman and still gifted as performers. Rusty and I joked that we were long lost cousins in that we share the same last name.
Lo and behold, I purchased a house near Destin Fl. in 2011 next door to a Nashville music manager. Among the half dozen acts in his stable-you guessed it, POCO. I still keep up with the Rusty led group from my neighbor, and from time to time see Rusty next door. From a southern redneck Bordeaux drinker …..ROCK ON POCO! Spike

Here's my first entry. I first saw Santana July 68 one month before Woodstock. They were new to the San Francisco music scene. They blew the crowd away. I saw many times thereafter.

Thank you JC. It helped to be going to college at the epicenter of music in the late 60s. (Yes, I know Londoners will object to this.) Winterland was about 2 miles away. The Filmore West was about 5 miles away. The Family Dog was 3 miles away.

My second concert with Santana and Credence, QMS and the Chambers Brothers was amazing. Santana had not released a record. Credence had released their first in May 68 but nobody was playing it yet. The Chamber Brother had just released "Time". It was a fun time.

My best concert ever: Paul McCartney
My most legendary concert ever: Queen (Lewiston Armory, February 1975)
My worst concert ever: Ja Rule (yes, pathetic, I know, long story)

Jim, my wife also loved that McCartney tour of a couple years ago. I didn't go to that one.

Deciding the best concert is really tough.

Best concert: Who 1970. Moon the loon was still alive and drove the band. Truly a lead drummer.
Worst concert: Grand Funk. I couldn't hear for a week. Sound level exceeded pain threshold.
Most memorable third act: Tie, Dr John the night tripper. White middle case suburban kid meets gris gris music which was rock infused with voodoo rhythms and chants.
Add dancing black female chorus throwing sparkle dust on stage in a concert hall filled with a cloud of weed smoke.
The other Mot the Hoople, who just ripped up the stage as the third act.
Band I've seen the most and remember the least: the grateful dead. For some unexplained reason I've only remember limited snippets of their shows.

I went to more than a few concerts back in the day, Tull, Queen, Supertramp, Yes 2x, Patti Smith 2x, ELO 2x, ELP, Heart, Eagles, Aztec Two Step, and many more.
But the most memorable was going to see Tangerine Dream in 1977 at the Avery Fisher Music Hall. I dropped a hit of pyramid acid as I got on the bus in Hartford. During the 40+ block walk from the Port Authority to the Lincoln Center I smoked at least two joints. Once inside the auditorium I met up with a bunch of friends who had driven together to NYC. It was made clear to us that any smoking of whatever was to be done in the lobby, where they were also selling alcohol. Anyone caught smoking inside the auditorium would be escorted by the ushers out to the lobby. Seating capacity was only around 2000 in there I think. The music was accompanied by a Laserium light show. Talk about intense - especially when I borrowed my friend's binoculars to look at the stage. What made the most lasting impression though was how loud the music was, and the perfect acoustics of the music hall. I never suspected that what I thought of as Space Music, now known as electronic rock, would be played at the same sound levels as any rock music. TDream totally kicked ass!

Back when I was interested in experimenting with drugs we would lace pot with pcp sometimes (we never referred to it as pcp or angel dust). or just take capsules of pcp mixed with cocoa powder. Never enough to experience the crazy wild stuff I've seen associated with that drug more recently but I did have some outrageous experiences when combining things. It would have been enough to frighten lots of people off drugs altogether.
I didn't push the limits like my older brother did, and I gave up doing risky things like that long long ago, eventually switching to car racing instead. He ultimately ended up living hand to mouth in San Jose.
I would do psilocybin mushrooms again though.
