Bordeaux 2006

Post by CJD »

2006’s - At 13 - kinda tasty right now. Saturating fruit & quite creamy so still youthful, the 2006s can be broached over the next few years.
Proviso....Limited tastings!
But
A Prieure Lichine 06 & a Carbonieux 06 both revealing youthful dark fruit character with a modern spin but in a good way.
Both very youthful, I feel these have a good 5 to 10 years ahead but as JL is prone to saying, why wait ?
Will they get better? The modern bdx drinkers dilemma.?
Are they aging ok? Yes
Are they delicious right now? I think so.
Would I back fill? Prob not.
Would I pick up a few bottles at auction? Yes

"...any bwe fans out there ?

Hi CJD

We are doing a Bordeaux tasting on Thursday themed 2006 and 2007. This is the line up:

DdC Blanc side by side: 2006 & 2007
2007 Margaux: Rausan Segla and Giscours
Batailley side by side: 2006 & 2007
Duhart Milon side by side 2006 & 2007
DdC Rouge side by side: 2006 & 2007
2006 Pot Pourri: Gruaud Larose & du Tertre
2007 Stickies: Rieussec & Coutet

I am going into this with an open mind as much as possible but with some preconceptions

- I expect the dry whites to show well in both years esp as it is DDC
- I expect the 2006s to be quite stern and ungracious but with the potential to evolve into ‘classic’ clarets
- I expect the 2007s to be lightweights easily shunned except the stickies

2006 is the penultimate “light on its feet” vintage to me, which I usually associate as a positive.
I have a pristine capsule spinning magnum of 2006 Duhart Milon that I’ve been having trouble keeping my hands off of.

Watch out for that spinning capsule,Jim. Look at it too long and it may mesmerize you into popping the cork and guzzling the whole mag in one fell swoop.

So what's your ultimate light on its feet vintage?

Is 06 to 05 as 83 is to 82? Overshadowed and overlooked? I’ve had some very nice 06s. Their biggest flaw is inflated prices left over from the 05 inflation insanity. As such, 01, 02 and 04 were much more attractive buys while being wines of similar quality.

12.5% alcohol, I'll have to uncork it with some BWEers within a year...

Based on what you and Comte have to say, BG, sounds like it is time to drink up at the 13 year mark.

Chris
The 06 Langoa Barton is a good rather than great wine.
I have drunk it twice over the last year.
It has medium bodied dark fruit though quite firm acid and tannin.
There is no hurry to drink it as it is still quit primary.

Drank 06 Le Bon Pasteur a few weeks ago which was very good, lots of plummy fruit and vanilla oak and well balanced
Also had 06 Lagrange recently which was more mature than LB with smoky fruit and good balance.
