TN: 1988 Château L'Arrosée

Post by Racer Chris »

  • 1988 Château L'Arrosée - France, Bordeaux, Libournais, St. Émilion Grand Cru (9/21/2019)
Perfect fill. Cork broke on the way out but was extracted in 2 pieces.
Garnet colored, fading to clear at the edge.
Alcohol with a touch of iodine on the nose.
On the palate, dried cherries and plums with just a hint of acidity, smooth tannins, some oregano and tobacco leaf, and a dash of iron. Modest finish that persists. Quite enjoyable. (90 pts.)

Very cool. We almost never see notes on this estate, and given that the label has been retired, it'll be a dwindling name in the future, like Magdelain etc.

Before they shut down they did try a few years of amping up the volume, and the bottle size too.

85 and 86 were darn good vintages here. Lighter style that worked well.

Thanks for the note Chris. Like the Saab car this estate no longer exists. Or, has been subsumed.

I have arranged a 1985 tasting on Oct 8 and the 1985 L’Arrosee is my contribution. Its flight mate is Magdelaine. I have had this before and last time it was a magical Burgundian wine.

The l’Arrosee is one of the best 82s. The 83s were pretty great too.
