I will be in DC and the end of next week at a conference. I will be free on Friday night if any locals fancy an impromptu rendez-vous. I appreciate it is very short notice, but will be able to bring bottles with me.

What nights do you have available?

Let's do it! How many people should we get together? I have a solid bistro-type neighborhood restaurant that is very corkage-friendly, or we could try for a private home. Let me know the night and I can put it together, unless Jay wants to take the lead.

If we go with BWE people only it would probably be 4-6, if I plug in some of my other wine connections we could get it up to 8-10 people, which size seems right to people?

also, although Ian's bottles will be more than appreciated, we will have no shortage of bottles locally as well!

Hi guys

Thanks for the swift responses. Would the Wednesday night work, the 16th?

It is possible I may now have to fly back on the Friday.

I will be shipping bottles back across so more than happy to bring a couple.

Friday would be better, but Wednesday night should still work for me.

Shall I set it up at Montmartre, my local restaurant? They charge a flat $100 for unlimited corkage (as many bottles as we want to bring).

How do you feel about my inviting other non-BWE folks from my local wine club? I will keep it to good people :-).

Sounds great Marc, shall we see how the others are placed?

I am more than happy to have non-BWE folk at the table.

I can’t do the 17th but I am available for dinner on either the 16th or the 18th. My preference would be for Wednesday, the 16th.

Montmartre was a nice spot with an excellent meal offer last June. And it was the night of the 2000 Pichon Baron.

I'd say an early start 6ish would be a good idea as these kind of dinners tend to be lengthy. I can bring some champagne etc.

I can confirm I will be in town on Friday night now.

If Ian is going to be in town Friday night, should we move it to Friday the 18th? That tends to be a little easier day for people to stay up late, we could start it a bit later then as well.

Please let me know if we should do Wednesday the 16th or Friday the 18th. As far as I can see, on this thread Ian, Chris, me, and David can make Friday but Jay may not be able to. I prefer Friday as it is easier to do this on a day that is not a work night for me, but I will bow to the group, as I can make either day if needed.

The problem is that I have to go to work the next day...I am young enough to still have to have a job, but not young enough to fully recover from a multi-hour wine dinner by the next morning.

I also cannot make it to a 6 PM start on a work night, it would have to be closer to 7 for me. maybe 6:30 at the earliest, but I have to check.

But if we are going to lose two BWEers having it on Friday then I can make it on Wednesday night if necessary...would not want to lose Chris and Jay. Anyway, David and Ian please weigh in so we can decide this by tomorrow morning and I can make a reservation and reach out to others. Thanks!

Marc I am available both nights but seems like Wednesday is favourite. I have to work the next day too so we don’t have to go crazy! Hope David you can make it?

Do not have to consume mass quantities with apologies to the Coneheads. Friday we have guests arriving at Rehoboth so no way I can make it. Again, please do not disrupt plans for mr vino's sake.

I’m in CA for a week, can’t make Wednesday, but that’s ok if it works better for the rest of you.
Having fun herding cats, Marcs?

OK, folks, I negotiated it out with Chris and have made the executive decision to go ahead on FRIDAY THE 18TH. Sorry Jay, next time -- promise to make it up to you!

We will be starting the dinner early on Friday the 18th at 5:30 at Montmartre, which is near Eastern Market on Capitol Hill (Eastern Market metro). I have told them that 6-8 people will attend. So far from this thread we have:

Me
Ian
David
Chris

I will also reach out to my own lists to get in some other DC wine afficianados.

Looking forward to seeing everyone!

Looking forward to it!

Chris, Peggy says if Marjorie comes she'll come to. But she'll pass on a table of unadulterated male wine geeks.

Assume the theme is Bordeaux. Anything more specific than that? Should I bring a Champagne or a dessert wine?

David,

Marjorie says she will join us under the same terms - only if she isn’t the only woman. So if Peggy is in, Marjorie is too.

I plan to bring Champagne and an appropriate red Bordeaux.

Late getting back to this - been traveling/meetings.

Peggy says it’s on, looking forward to seeing Marjorie.
