Last night after attending a delightful children's Christmas pageant at a local church we dined at a local restaurant and enjoyed my next to last bottle of the first BWE WOTY-1996 Sociando-Mallet. This was the best bottle so far and makes me regret a lack of patience. A nose of dill pickle gradually dissipated to reveal dark fruit and tannins (not harsh) with excellent structure and length. This wine is for those who like old school Bordeaux. I think it's still improving so enjoy now with a decant or hold. Grade of A-.
Merry Christmas to my brethren of BWE.

Happy holidays Jay. That 1996 Sociando Mallet is like Peggy and you. That says everything.

My last few bottles this year suggest they are ready to go. This could be a difference of palates as I like Bordeaux mostly ready for consumption at 15 to 20 years of maturity. I have 1 bottle left from the 2 cases acquired when our Benevolent Dictator was in a more generous acquisition mode.
