***ZOOM MEETING: APRIL 18TH, 5:00pm, U.S. EASTERN TIME***

Looks like we have a nice contingent committing to another BWE Bordeaux Zoom wine tasting.

The link to the meeting:

https://us02web.zoom.us/j/81299148284

The event will occur this Saturday, April 18th, at 5:00 p.m., eastern U.S. time.

That is an hour later than last time.

By my calculations that is at the following times in different time zones, but you'll probably want to double check on your own.

2pm: U.S. Pacific
3pm: U.S. Mountain
4pm: U.S. Central
5pm: U.S. Eastern
10pm: London
11pm: France/Europe
5am: Singapore
7am: Sidney, Australia

I'm happy to give my new Zoom account a try, Eddie, I'm just a little nervous about my complete incompetence when it comes to computer-related issues.

The theme of the tasting will be: "BORDEAUX."

I envision a little less structured meeting so that you don't have to hear me talk as much. David will be co-moderator and of course we'll be relying on Eddie to help us with any technical issues.

I'll post the link for the meeting. See you on Saturday afternoon...evening...morning....!

BD

I think I'll be there.
I'm meeting a friend at my shop earlier in the day and we're going to open his 1975 Ch. Giscours that he left there a few weeks ago.
It shouldn't be too hard for us to maintain a safe distance since my shop is 3600 sf.
For the Zoom meeting I already pulled the cork tonight on a 2014 Ch. St Pierre and poured a glass to give the bottle some breathing space.

Excellent, Chris!

Yes, 2014 or "younger Bordeaux" seems like a good sub-theme.

I'm nervous, Eddie, maybe we should go with your link?
I've started the meeting right at 5pm, on the hour seems to be the only option.

Jim, just because the timing says 5 PM doesn't mean you can't start the meeting earlier. Just log on a few minutes early to start the meeting.

Ironically, I seem to have a lack of Bordeaux right now in my flat (apart from some stuff that is too good to open alone). I might need to venture out to buy something.

The downside of having your wine stored offsite during a pandemic.

I have no Bordeaux that young. I am going to open a Beaujolais in honor of the recent thread.

We'll see you all today at 5pm US Eastern time, keeping my fingers crossed that I don't screw it up.

If we have problems come back here to this link and I'm sure Ed will be able to help us out.

We're planning on 90 minutes again, with the them of "Young Bordeaux," or... whatever you want.

2014 Cantemerle for us, opened an hour ago. It has been a long time since I opened such a young Grand Cru Classe Medoc. I dug out my Indian tongue cleaner for use after the zoom meeting.

Probably a 2014 Pavie Macquin for me today. Might get frisky and get out a 2014 Haut Bailly or go really young and taste the 2016 Calon Segur though.

2 pm is a little early for painfully young claret. I think I’ll start with the second half of the 02 Pol Roger BdB.

Being too hungry to wait until 4 for lunch, I am sampling the Cantemerle with sautéed mushrooms on blinis coated with sour cream. The Cantemerle is nicely structured with red raspberries and wild strawberries. The tannins are pretty soft. It is OK for drinking now, though for me I expect peak drinking will start 5-10 years from now; more likely closer to 10 than 5.

How is your 2002 Pol Roger BdB, Patrick?

I enjoyed the first half of the Pol last night. I concur, it's in a great spot, probably at peak. I got just the first nuances of 'aged' bubbly, to go with great freshness and body. The dosage might be a bit more evident than prior bottles, is that normal for mature champagne? At any rate, I liked it a lot and look forward to trying part 2 of it in a few hours.

This '75 Giscours is drinking very well right now.
The Saint Pierre definitely won't hold a candle to it.
