Trivia questions from my wine cellar (and yours).

Post by JimHow »

Okay, so I have kept my cellartracker data up to date.
Let's see what the "my reports" section tells us about my cellar, and yours.

JimHow Cellar Trivia Question #1:

I currently have 896 bottles in my cellar.

The most bottles from any one producer is 35 bottles, or 3.9% of my cellar.

Who is that producer?

Ha ha good guess, Calon Segur comes in at number 1 (not all from 2014).
Giscours is second at 34 bottles, 3.8%.
Sociando third.

Lynch is way down there, 14 bottles at 1.6%.

Not surprising, given the price of Lynch-Bages. It has become a "special occasion" wine. Canon-Segur is headed in that direction.

I'll play.
Out of 798 bottles, two producers are tied for #1 with 50 bottles. One of them should be pretty easy, the other almost unheard of.
A hint - both retail for less than $20 in most markets.
The most I have of any Cru Classe is 34 bottles, and the producer shouldn't be too challenging if people are paying attention to my posts. :D

If I need to find wines that give great pleasure for modest prices (but unfortunately are overlooked quite often), I look for notes and posts by Chris, Alex, Arv, Orlando Bobby, et al...I have had great success banking on you guys...

After reading this my curiosity got the better of me, I have 1162 bottles with Ridge and Chateau Montelena coming in at #1 at 58 and #2at 38 since those are the only two mailing lists I'm on. My #3 is not necessarily my favorite Bordeaux overall but I'm not surprised either, any guesses?

Not to say it's #1 though it wouldn't be too far from it, I'm saddled with two cases of the 2009 Pavie Macquin minus a couple I've drunk and a couple I've given away.

Will I be banned if I admit that a Bordeaux does not come in as my number one? Sociando is number 3 in my collection. The first two I’ll leave for you all to guess. I’m guessing that only the boys from the “other” wine board will come close on this one.

I hope not or I'll be right there with in the dog house! Mine are Ridge and Montelena, at least old school Cali. Please don't tell us it's Cali Chard, lol.

I don't pay much attention to the "other" board these days but I don't peg you as a new world guy, I would guess either Rhone or maybe even Loire. Id have to guess maybe Beaucastel, Clos du Pape or Huet?

As befits a true BWEer, Jim, your top ten list contains only one Burgundy producer, who, btw, produces a zillion different wines.

I have not updated my data base in a long time, but it looks like Jadot comes in number 5. 1 through 4 are....

Jim, that's a very interesting list. I see that St. Estephe and Margaux stand out on your list making up just over 50%.

Leoville Barton is my numero uno, comprising 3.7% of my overall collection - how can you go wrong?

My darling Conseillante is #4 at 2.3%. Eight out of ten are Bordeaux the other two are Barolo - Burlotto and Azelia.

Right you are, Chris, that St Innocent is number one. La Lagune is number four; number one among Bordeaux estates.

Jacques, you redeemed yourself with that addition.

Gerry, I like that list. Good work.

Mine 925 bottles are currently skewed because:
1) I bought too much Cali early on, although France has finally taken over at 47% to 37%.
2) I have a few cases of "investment wines" that make up my 2 of my top 3. That is Clos Fourtet(mostly 03, 37 total bottles across) and Pavie(Mostly 05, 27 bottles across)

My number 1 producer at 45 bottles is what? Hints are Cali, and Bordeaux influenced.

Ok, so my Cellartracker is NOT up to date, but based on the last information, my top ten are:

1: Du Tertre 3.8% 36
2: Sociando-Mallet 3.7% 35
3: Domaine Tortochot 2.9% 27
4: Chasse Spleen 2.6% 24
5: Suduiraut 2.3% 22
6. Pinson Freres Chablis 1.9% 18
7. Domaine Henri Delagrange 1.9% 18
8. Domaine Billard-Gonnet 1.9% 18
9. Domaine Guyon 1.8% 17
10. Leoville Las Cases 1.5% 14

Billard-Gonnet is a Champagne producer that I tend to buy in bulk for "let's drink champagne" occasions.
