I'll try to be there, but I really have no clue what I'll open. Maybe I'll head down to a wine store I haven't visited in awhile and see if they have any gems that I can pick up...

I am not sure my Saturday schedule will permit, but if so, I expect to be sitting in front of a glass of Bordeaux wine.

Sounds like 2010 might be a theme. Maybe i'll do a 2010 Domaine De Chevalier. If not, either an 06 Cos or 06 SHL

I don't feel very welcome, maybe my time is past.

Maybe i can find a 2010, to be in the main theme.

It is a special weekend for me, maybe i should do the Zoom conference to explain why.

I decided that this would be a great opportunity to pull out the Coravin.

I'll be doing three whites, one Saint Julien, and a sticky.

Fun!

The first time David and I pretty much went around the screen and each person talked one at a time. The second time it was more of a free for all, people just joined in on the conversation at will. I think the general consensus was that the first method was more successful. I'm expecting 20+ participants.

If there are 20+ participants that will not be much time for people to talk individually!

We pretty much allocate 90 minutes.

There is no cut off is there? So no time pressure really...? I think the first one was 90 minutes and the second one was two hours. Last Friday night we did one among mainly UK people and it lasted from 730pm until 10pm. That was also a lot of fun but quite unstructured and would have been better if we went around the traps so to speak initially.

Yeah, no time contraints. Last time a few of us stuck around for like four hours. People can stay as long as they want.

Since several are opening 2010 Bdx, I decided to join in the kiddy slaughter and opened a 2010 La Lagune when I woke up at 10 AM CDT. I have not tasted this wine but I am guessing that in this vintage LL will exhibit Graves like tendencies and be less Margaux like than usual. One thing I would bet the house on--it will not taste like a Napa Cab.

I think I will be opening a 1982 Bordeaux. Lalagune is a leading candidate but will need to check with Marjorie for her preference.

I may be late, probably not gonna open the Talbot.
Entertaining two people at my shop, one a beer drinker and the other is my wine mentor.
I think after a beer, in another hour we''ll open the Australian wine (Vasse Felix) I posted about a few weeks ago, and expect I'll have some left over to bring home.

Since my microphone wasn't working (I had inadverdently covered it with the tape I use to block my camera) when I started talking about the wine I was drinking, here's the note I posted on Cellartracker:
1983 Vasse Felix Margaret River Cabernet Sauvignon
This was a great bottle of cabernet. Still some tannins that dried the gums slightly. A mix of dark fruits, cherry, cassis, blackberry, and plum. As the bottle neared the end, the fruit became more of a feeling on the palate, with leather and tobacco to the fore. Medium long finish.
Light on its feet, yet quite powerful at the same time.
94 points.

Nice note Racer. Not being that much of an Aussie wines lover, i have to admit that the Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay from the Margaret River area are probably among the most interesting from Australia.

Good seeing you all again.

The 1996 Leoville Barton was in a good spot. Gaining some complexity and resolving tannins compared to a few years ago. I expect even more improvement.

The 2010 Chateau Gloria is a good wine. Lot of milky tones, sweet dry tobacco, red berries, balsamic exotic oak and some coffee notes later on. MC thought it was a weird unusual Saint Julien. For sure, far away fro the Léovilles, Ducru Beaucaillou or Beychevelle. Medium body, very ok but let me a bit on my expectations. Tn: 89-90.

On the other hand, the Lanson Extra Age brut was a kind of sweet citrus flowery Champagne, with some nice richness, low acidity, medium level of bubbles. Went well with foie gras. A Champagne to mix witb appetizers or a meal. Excellent. Tn : 91.

Good to see everyone attending . And for the little story (and for Ed), MichaelP brought to Montreal 03 first dinner a 1959 Chateau Nénin (ok) and a 1964 Chateau Gazin (excellent, on those old clay light black wet berries, truffles and iron blood).

Good to see you all last night and especially to see Howard and Lisa again.

I was sitting between them and Arv at the Saturday dinner in Colorado and we had a great time as Howard was waxing lyrical about his love of South American wines Michel Rolland and reverse osmosis.

My 2010 Pavillon Rouge drank really well having been double decanted three hours before the call started. It had a gritty, mineral, slaty quality and a density too, a really serious wine. Of course it could do with a couple of Blanquitos but as with the D’Issan 2010 one can derive a lot of pleasure from drinking it now.

Jim joked that maybe I had a 1961 Ch. Margaux now, but in fact Karl dropped off a couple of older sweet wines yesterday. I wanted to open the Aussie Cabernet though, since temperatures are rising and I don't have a safe place in my office to store old red wines to protect them against the heat.
So now in my refrigerator at work are, a 1976 Doisy-Daëne and a 1976 JJ Prum Auslese. Looking at the CT data for both, the Riesling looks like it may shine brightly.
I'll have to seek out something appropriate to pair with those bottles.

Nic,

You are probably correct on those MP 2003 wines. Do you keep notes or is that young brain of yours that good. I knew they were a couple of oldies and the Gloria label tweeted my fading memory more than the wine. Thanks for the correction.

The 2004 Sociando Mallet is in a very good place and one of the better that I've enjoyed for many years. Always afraid of too much green in the background and it was subtle but still there. Smooth resolved tannins with lovely balance, good length and certainly no complaints. Nice black fruit, dark cherry and hints of cedar/leather made for a very pleasant drink that I had to share sip for sip with Danielle...I guess it was good!

Great to see the faces again and especially long lost Howard and Lisa. The meet locker brought back Texas Chainsaw memories but I guess it should do the trick.

Really great to see everyone, we finally logged off after three hours.
Everyone was in great spirits.
My 2016 Kirwan was really quite stunning, great, great medium bodied balance and elegance.
I think it was Neil Martin who described it as a masculine, full bodied wine, and I just don't see.
I see it as more feminine and elegant.
I had a bottle a couple weeks ago and I uncorked this remaining bottle to see if I liked it as much as the first bottle. I did, and I will try to get ahold of a case.

2010 La Lagune should be very good in ten or fifteen years, but it is a waste to drink it now. It tilts toward Graves rather than towards Margaux, as I guessed.

The writer of Texas Chain Saw Massacre 2, Kit Carson, was a high school classmate of and a groomsman in my elder brother's wedding. I think he also did some of the writing on Texas Chain Saw Massacre but maybe is not credited. He co-wrote Paris, Texas, one of Jim's favorite movies, and Kit's son Hunter was the child star in that movie. Kit moved back to Dallas when Hunter was a child and enrolled Hunter in the same high school that he, my brother, and I attended. One screenplay Kit worked on that I think was not produced had as it its theme "Suppose Hunter Thompson had become Sheriff of Aspen". I think the similarity between the gonzo journalist's name and that of Kit's son is not coincidental.
