Well this is certainly stern. I'm liking it, at least initially.

I'm liking this wine because it tastes like the Pauillac that it is....

Second wine of Grand-Puy Lacoste Jim. Don't fool yourself.

So I was wondering about that, Nicola, can you educate me?
Is this the second wine of GPL, or something different, like Clos du Marquis?
Does it have any relation to Lalande-Borie?
I like this 2016 Lacoste-Borie better than the 2016 Lalande-Borie from the other night.
I literally know nothing about Lacoste-Borie and Lalande-Borie.

Nic is right Jim. I verified just now that Lacoste-Borie is the second wine of GPL. I found it on pg101 in Clive Coates' book.
It also says Lacoste-Borie is made with grapes from the younger vines.
The relationship with Lalande-Borie is that members of the Borie family have owned both properties.

Thanks RC, I'm really enjoying this wine.
Neil Martin and CT seem to like the Lalande-Borie better but I'm liking this for its restraint and Pauillac-ness..

The 2016 Lacoste-Borie, GPL or no GPL, is a JimHow kind of wine.
It is stern, no-nonsense, VERY Pauillac, true to form.
If this is what GPL is offering these days, then it is time to revisit.
Unfortunately, the first label is going for $100-plus these days.
This puppy, on the other hand, is under $30 on sale in NH.
I'll buy more, on sale. GPL second label + 2016... two thumbs up!
90 points.

If you want a classic GPL try the 2014. $50 on release, $65-70 now, red fruited with great acidity. I set aside four to age but thinking I might need more

Yes I have five bottles of 2014 GPL which I bought for exactly $50 each in NH.
I drank one and ordered five more because I thought, finally, GPL is realizing its terroir.
Then Nic and I ran into the Bernstein fellow at MacArthur's who said that, finally, since the duaghter took over, GPL is FINALLY realizing the greatness of its Pauillac terroir.
This Lacoste Borie '16 was, as Ian would say, "a revelation."

I had the 2013 GPL and was blown away with the quality and terroir, for a bad year, even just starting up I bought one each of the 2014 and 2016. The 2016 was expensive.JimHow wrote:Yes I have five bottles of 2014 GPL which I bought for exactly $50 each in NH.

I will have to look for the second wine. Great post! Thank you!

Indeed, BobbyG, I'm planning on buying another dozen bottles of the 2016 Lacoste-Borie.
I was very impressed with my first encounter with this wine.
It was a delicious Pauillac true to its terroir.
It is $28.89 when it is on sale in NH, a great QPR.

Damn, Jim this is some high praise. You should try the Langoa Barton in 2016 if you see it, I bet you’d seriously dig. It’s not as cheap as the Lacoste, but 3rd Growths rarely are.JimHow wrote:Indeed, BobbyG, I'm planning on buying another dozen bottles of the 2016 Lacoste-Borie.

I had the 2010 of this a while ago. It was solid; I'm guessing 2016 is much better.

Yeah I went into it with low expectations but I'm going to buy like the wind when they go back on sale in NH at $28.
