2016 Pichon Baron for $100 — how much to buy?

Post by Blanquito »

I’m seeing this locally for $100 + 8.5% sales tax. It was my favorite wine at the 2016 UGC, in part because it was somehow both old school and up-to-the-minute at the same time. And 2016 is my daughter’s birthyear. But I don’t own any.

How much should I buy? I’m thinking 6, to lay down for my daughter of course.

Haha you beat me to it but I would just confirm it’s not a 375ml as cost was around $133/btl so that sounds wrong but in an insanely good way.

I know, too good to be true. But it is now on sale, marked down from $160, in their temp controlled room, has the anti-counterfeit stickers on the capsules, bottkes look pristine, etc.

I should see how much they have. The 16 Lynch is also on sale for $100.

The Lynch Bages was pretty classy stuff at the UGCB tasting. Buy it all!

Damn, there’s no risk there you could sell it at a profit probably.

I need to get out to more wine stores, I never see prices like that on winesearcher. That’s a $150 wine

Buy, buy, buy like the wind.

If I had to choose between them I would choose the Baron, but the Lynch is exceptionally good as well.

Yes, buy them all. I have not had the Baron recently, but the Lynch just before lockdown was superb.

Depending on the quantities Patrick we could do a BWE syndicated loan to take out the entire stock.

I would buy as much as you can. That is a crazy good price for both.

Your question, my dear Blanquito, is more a brag than a query. Obviously you buy all they have. Save 21 for your daughter for when she comes of age and hope the rest last you into your 80s or 90s.

Blanquito, these are prices we never see here, so i recommend 6 of each minimum. You can't go wrong with these two Chateaux. And look at is objectively: probably they are better than the 2019, and the price is - 37.5 %, a bigger reduction than 2019 futures...

If I could have these prices for these two wines here, i would buy the Pauillac right now instead of red Bourgogne...

This is very helpful! It may seem hard to believe, but I was truly torn if I should just get something like 3 of each or if I should go big!

I will call when they open to find out how much they have.

This has got to be some kind of mistake, no?
What would motivate them to sell at such a huge loss?
Are they going out of business or something?
If it is legit, then... buy like the wind!

How will you explain to your daughter when she comes of age that you passed on the Lynch-Bages?

If that Lynch ever comes around to resemble the 89, Jimmy Howe will throw you into a Maine jail on charges of reckless disregard
